Schools in Bournemouth

Seven miles of golden sand along the south Dorset coast give Bournemouth its defining character, extending from Alum Chine westward to the edge of Poole. Founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell on formerly uninhabited heathland, the town grew into a major resort following the arrival of the railway in 1870, and its 196,000 residents today share the area with over five million annual visitors each year. The town centre is framed by Victorian architecture, including St Peter's Church with its 202-foot spire.

Pokesdown, immediately east of the centre, is among the most sought-after neighbourhoods for primary school catchments, while Southbourne and Moordown draw families looking for established residential streets with strong state school options. Ensbury Park extends the residential spread further northward. South Western Railway connects Bournemouth to Southampton Central in under an hour.
