Schools in Rochester

At the lowest bridging point of the River Medway, Rochester commands a narrow chalk passage where the river opens toward the Thames estuary, set within the Medway conurbation alongside Chatham, Strood, and Gillingham. The castle and cathedral, both dating to the Norman period, define a compact medieval centre that Charles Dickens drew on throughout his fiction, having lived at nearby Gads Hill Place.

Southeastern trains on the Chatham Main Line connect Rochester station to London Victoria in around 55 minutes. Borstal, on the Medway's south bank, is among the most sought-after pockets for school catchments, with Boley Hill and St Margaret's Banks occupying quieter streets around the cathedral precinct. Cuxton draws families who favour a village setting at the conurbation's southern edge. Around 63,000 people lived in Rochester at the 2011 census.
