Child-led planting, multilingual communication and support for growing independence give Huda Nursery its character in June 2023. Based on Somerville Road in Birmingham, it has capacity for 77 children in total.
At its June 2023 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, judged safeguarding effective and found that children made good progress, with effective support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Children attending at that time were aged two to four.
In June 2023, children chose their own play materials, and adults used those choices to extend conversation: planting seeds prompted predictions about their growth. Books, rhymes and songs supported language development, while pictures and objects helped introduce unfamiliar words. These gave children several ways to join in, including those learning English alongside another language.
The early years foundation stage sets expectations for children's learning, development and care. Here, the June 2023 examples included learning through play, conversation and practical tasks, rather than relying solely on organised group teaching.
There were two clear limitations. In June 2023, some circle-time groups were too big and lasted too long for children to sustain their attention. During play-dough making, adults sometimes explained the result before children could experiment themselves. Better learning meant shorter, more responsive group activities and more room to discover what happens through trying things out.
In June 2023, children formed close relationships with adults, who offered comfort when extra reassurance was needed. Consistent behavioural expectations encouraged sharing, turn-taking and consideration for others. Personal care also became a learning opportunity: two-year-olds practised fastening their coats and managing tasks themselves.
Support extended to families. In June 2023, multilingual staff kept parents updated about their children's development. Staff collaborated with families and other professionals, and the special educational needs coordinator sought extra funding through the local authority for children needing further support. Staff received supervision and training; safeguarding routines included risk assessments, visitor identity checks and paediatric first-aid training.

In June 2023, the nursery provided funded early education for children aged two, three and four. That is a dated participation statement, rather than a promise of a funded place for an individual child.
Huda suits families who value language-rich play, practical independence and communication across languages. Its June 2023 strengths sat alongside specific weaknesses in group organisation and adult intervention. The useful distinction is between children choosing an activity and having enough freedom to explore it: that is the point to examine when deciding whether this nursery fits your child.
