Everbloom Childcare, Shadsworth Business Park

At a Glance

Opportunities to explore beyond nursery and plenty of movement give Everbloom Childcare, Shadsworth Business Park its character: in May 2024, children had opportunities to visit farms, libraries and nature reserves, alongside dance and swimming. These experiences brought learning about the wider world into the nursery day.

At its 23 May 2024 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, judged safeguarding effective and found that children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), benefited from the curriculum and made good progress. Everbloom has 64 places in total for children aged 3 to 60 months.

The Nursery Experience

The early years foundation stage sets the framework for children's learning, development and care. Here, the May 2024 activities included stories, songs and rhymes, giving children opportunities to practise language and explore books for themselves.

Learning also reached beyond books. In May 2024, children learnt about the work of guide dogs and had opportunities to visit libraries, nature reserves and farms. Outdoors, stacking tyres gave them a practical challenge; staff encouraged them to keep trying when the task became difficult. Weekly dance classes and swimming lessons added organised opportunities for movement.

There were weaknesses beneath that breadth. Staff did not consistently connect their interactions to each child's precise learning goals in May 2024. The distinction matters: an engaging activity also needs a clear purpose for the individual child.

Care and Support

In May 2024, staff knew children and their families well, offered comfort when children felt anxious and helped them settle. Stories about kindness prompted children to compliment friends, making other people's feelings part of everyday conversation.

Parents contributed information about development and interests, while staff shared advice for extending learning at home. Meals were home-cooked, with healthy snacks alongside them; visits from a local dentist introduced dental care.

At the May 2024 inspection, Ofsted identified two priorities: making staff more precise about children's next learning goals, including for children with SEND, and improving transitions between activities. Some children waited too long around meal preparation and became unsettled, so the organisation of these quieter intervals mattered as much as the activities themselves.

Practical Information

Sovereign House, Lions Drive, Shadsworth Business Park, BB1 2QS is the nursery's address. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with year-round opening and closures for bank holidays and Christmas.

In May 2024, the nursery provided funded early education for two-, three- and four-year-old children.

Things to Consider

  • Individual learning goals. The May 2024 findings called for more precise teaching for each child. Ask how staff now choose and review those goals, including for children with SEND.
  • Mealtime transitions. Children sometimes became unsettled while waiting in May 2024. Ask how these intervals are organised now.
  • Attendance and charges. For a child aged 3 to 60 months, which booking pattern would suit your week, and what would the written quotation include for funded hours, meals and consumables?

The Verdict

Everbloom suits families who value outings, physical activity and communication between home and nursery. Its May 2024 account offers concrete examples of all three. The decision also turns on how consistently staff translate individual learning goals into daily interactions and keep children engaged between activities.
