A robot made from boxes and tape captures Bearwood’s appeal: children working together, sharing materials and learning to help one another. In June 2024, this was one example of a nursery day that combined practical independence with playful exploration.
Ofsted rated Tops Day Nurseries: Bearwood Nursery Good on 11 June 2024. The setting at 70 Magna Road, Bournemouth, accepts children from 3 months to 60 months. Its strongest inspection-era detail concerns relationships and everyday learning, rather than a branded programme.
The early years foundation stage is the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and care: here, the June 2024 examples included learning words through water play, exploring sound and practising cooperation. These are useful illustrations of how play can carry learning, rather than simply fill the day.
Younger children investigated musical instruments, listening to their sounds and trying them for themselves. At the water tray, pouring and splashing became opportunities to introduce vocabulary linked to what children were doing. Older children’s construction with boxes and tape brought a different challenge: making something together required sharing and cooperation.
In June 2024, staff planned activities around children’s next steps and supported independence through dressing and toileting. The limitation was in extending learning: quieter children sometimes needed more encouragement to contribute, while staff occasionally missed opportunities to develop an interest that emerged during play. Both points matter to families whose children need time to speak or prefer to lead their own exploration.
At the June 2024 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and identified effective SEND support through the special educational needs coordinator, targeted plans, additional funding and collaboration with professionals including health visitors. That combination gives parents a concrete picture of how extra help was organised at the time.
During June 2024, children received affectionate reassurance from staff, while settling arrangements could adapt to individual needs. Parents and practitioners exchanged information about achievements and experiences at home, helping connect the two parts of a child’s day.
Preparation for school also had practical substance. In June 2024, local teachers visited, and nursery staff spoke with school staff and shared information to support continuity. This was transition work centred on helping the next setting understand the child.
Bearwood’s address is 70 Magna Road, Bournemouth, BH11 9NA. It is open Monday to Friday, from 6am to 8pm, across the year, with bank-holiday closures. Those opening hours give families a substantial window in which to organise care.
In June 2024, the nursery received funding for early education for children aged two, three and four. This is a dated account of participation, rather than a promise about an individual family’s entitlement or attendance arrangement.
Bearwood merits consideration for families seeking care across an extended weekday opening window and an emphasis on everyday independence. Its June 2024 examples of music, water play and collaborative construction give that emphasis substance. The decision points are equally concrete: how quieter children join in, and how practitioners turn spontaneous interests into further learning.
