Ark Private Day Nursery

At a Glance

Sensory baskets, bicycle riding and train-track building give Ark Private Day Nursery's February 2022 account its character: practical play with opportunities to explore, move and solve problems. Ofsted rated the nursery Good at its inspection on 23 February 2022. That judgement belongs to that visit.

At 490 Halifax Road in Bradford, BD6 2LH, the nursery has capacity for 50 children, with an accepted age range of 1 to 60 months. Capacity describes the whole setting, rather than the number of children sharing an activity or room.

The Nursery Experience

The early years foundation stage sets the framework for children's learning and care, bringing development and everyday play together. In February 2022, staff used assessments to identify what children needed to learn next and built activities around their existing skills.

Babies and toddlers explored textured books and sensory baskets. Older children experimented with extending a train track around obstacles, while cornflour exploration held toddlers' attention. These examples give parents a concrete picture of learning through handling materials and working things out.

Outdoor play in February 2022 included bicycles and steps leading to a slide. Language also accompanied play: staff introduced descriptive vocabulary during ice exploration and encouraged children to recall earlier experiences while painting.

Care and Support

At the February 2022 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and assessed support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities very positively, including plans developed with parents and relevant professionals.

In February 2022, staff gathered information about children's home experiences when they joined, and parents valued settling support and updates about development. Children practised sharing resources and contributing ideas in groups, giving social learning a place alongside individual activities.

There were two practical weaknesses. In February 2022, adults sometimes completed manageable self-care tasks for younger children, reducing opportunities to practise independence; reminders to wash hands before eating were also inconsistent. Both matters were identified for improvement.

Practical Information

Opening hours are 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The nursery operates across the year, closing for bank holidays and one week at Christmas. This opening window helps families assess the fit with work commitments.

In February 2022, funded early education was provided for children aged two, three and four. This is a dated participation detail, rather than a promise about a particular child's entitlement or booking.

Things to Consider

  • Independence in everyday care. February 2022 findings identified adults doing some simple tasks for younger children. On a visit, ask how children now practise drying their hands and other self-care skills.
  • Hygiene before food. Handwashing reminders were inconsistent in February 2022. Ask how practitioners make this routine reliable before children eat.

The Verdict

Ark merits consideration by families seeking care across the year within a 7am to 6pm opening window. Its February 2022 account gives useful examples of sensory exploration, outdoor movement and conversation during play, alongside clear questions about independence and hygiene. The Good judgement provides a dated quality reference; those everyday routines deserve attention when choosing care.
