A large back garden and an emphasis on children exploring for themselves give Beeches Day Nursery its character. This Prestwich setting has capacity for 66 children, accepting ages from three months to five years. Its rooms take children from infancy through to preschool, while a key person provides a familiar point of contact for each child.
Ofsted rated Beeches Good at its August 2022 inspection. That is a dated judgement, rather than a description of every aspect of today's provision. The current approach includes working towards Curiosity Approach accreditation, with exploration, communication and interaction central to the nursery's description of children's learning.
Opening hours run from 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays. Meals are included in fees, and funded childcare is offered.
The Baby Room covers ages 0–18 months, The Tweenie Room takes toddlers from 18 months to three-plus years, and The Pre-School Room serves children aged three to five. These room bands describe the nursery's organisation; the setting's overall accepted age range starts at three months.
The transitions matter as much as the labels. In August 2022, settling arrangements supported children both when they first started and when they changed rooms, helping them retain a sense of security as their surroundings changed.
The early years foundation stage is the framework for children's learning, development and care: play supports communication, physical development and growing independence. Alongside that baseline, Beeches is working towards Curiosity Approach accreditation, an approach presented here through children's opportunities to explore, communicate and learn together. Accreditation is a goal, rather than an achieved award.
In August 2022, activities followed children's interests, and practitioners adapted learning as opportunities arose. Practical problems gave children something concrete to work out: toddlers manoeuvred a balance bike through a tight entrance and over steps, while preschool children adjusted dough by adding flour. The emphasis was on giving children time to attempt a solution themselves.
Books also featured across the age groups in August 2022. Repetition supported recall of favourite stories. Reading combined time with adults, independent picture browsing and shared books outdoors among preschool children. These were everyday experiences, rather than a separate programme.
The large back garden gives outdoor exploration a substantial place in the setting. In August 2022, its natural features supplied materials and ideas for imaginative play: raspberries became ingredients in the mud kitchen, and bushes became places for hiding and shared games.
That same month's outdoor experiences included balance bikes, low tree climbing and gymnastics. Physical challenge was part of the day, but safety teaching needed greater consistency. Staff did not reliably reinforce the intended precautions, including helmet reminders, and improvements to parts of the outdoor environment were being planned.
Every child has a key person to support settling and development. The manager also holds the SENCo and behaviour co-ordinator roles, giving families identifiable responsibilities for additional needs and behaviour support. Staff receive safeguarding training and have paediatric first aid training; these are practical arrangements, rather than a substitute for an inspection judgement.
At its August 2022 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and additional needs recognised early, with referrals, resources and funding used to support children's progress. The dated findings connect support to specific action: involving other professionals and choosing resources around a child's needs and interests.
In August 2022, babies communicated with adults through close, face-to-face exchanges and simple vocabulary. Independence developed through ordinary routines too: babies practised feeding themselves, toddlers prepared fruit, and preschool children served their own food. This made mealtimes another opportunity to practise skills.
Meals are cooked freshly on site, with breakfast, lunch, tea, drinks and snacks included in fees. Menus can be adapted for dietary needs and allergies through discussion with parents.
An open-door policy supports communication between families and the nursery. Combined with the key-person arrangement, it gives parents both a particular practitioner linked to their child and an ongoing route for conversation.
Beeches is at 5 St Anns Road, Prestwich, Manchester, M25 9LD. It opens on weekdays between 7.30am and 6pm, across 51 weeks of the year, with a one-week Christmas closure; bank holidays are also closure days.
The daily opening window gives families the operating hours. Enquiries can be made through the contact form, by telephone or by email, and visits are welcomed.
Funded childcare is offered, and childcare voucher schemes are accepted. Fees include food and drinks across the nursery day, rather than lunch alone. Families should obtain current prices through a written quotation from the nursery.
Beeches suits families who value outdoor exploration, practical independence and continuity through a key person. Its large garden and progression through The Baby Room, The Tweenie Room and The Pre-School Room provide a clear shape to the nursery experience.
The Good judgement from August 2022 gives useful context, with safety teaching outdoors and clearer explanations of activities the principal cautions. For parents considering the setting now, those specific points deserve attention alongside its weekday opening hours, included meals and funded childcare offer.
At its August 2022 inspection, Ofsted rated Beeches Good and found safeguarding effective. The improvement points concerned explaining activities' learning intentions and teaching children to use outdoor resources safely.
