At its February 2024 inspection, Ofsted judged the provision Good, found safeguarding effective and recognised effective work with other agencies to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Children attending then were aged two to four. The main reservations concerned consistency between staff and the organisation of changes between activities.

In February 2024, children's interests helped shape activity planning. The early years foundation stage set the framework for learning, development and care: here, play gave children opportunities to practise movement, communication and independence.

Diggers in sand and tweezers used at a water tray exercised hand control. Outdoors, children used the garden for riding, swinging, construction and climbing. Building a marble-run tower and counting cubes brought persistence and number work into play. Staff gave instructions and allowed time for children to attempt tasks themselves, rather than immediately taking over.

Changes into group activities were less dependable. Some children continued their individual play and missed the shared activity; the move to lunch could also become disorganised. These were practical weaknesses in how the day flowed, rather than a shortage of activities.

In February 2024, the key-person arrangement gave children familiar adults to approach for company or comfort. Staff also sang to help children settle. Clear boundaries, explanations about how behaviour affected others, and timers for taking turns helped manage disagreements.

Parents received updates about their child's activities and next learning steps. Books and visual communication cards extended support into the home, while staff directed families towards relevant agencies. For children with additional needs, achievable individual targets and resources supported participation.

Ofsted's February 2024 inspection also identified uneven confidence in extending children's learning and called for stronger staff supervision, coaching and training. That matters alongside the personal relationships: familiar care and consistently purposeful teaching need to work together.
