Nursery Rhymes

At a Glance

Beach school and everyday independence gave Nursery Rhymes in Bridlington its character at the April 2025 inspection. At its April 2025 inspection, Ofsted rated it Outstanding, finding exceptional progress and timely support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The detail behind that judgement matters: learning extended from conversations and play to handling shells and pebbles.

The nursery accepts children aged 4 to 60 months and has 38 places in total. These are whole-setting places, rather than the size of an individual group.

The Nursery Experience

In April 2025, weekly beach school sessions introduced children to the different textures of shells and pebbles. This gave learning a concrete starting point: objects children could handle and explore, rather than descriptions alone. Activities followed children's interests and their next learning steps.

The early years foundation stage sets the requirements for children's learning, development and care. In April 2025, the curriculum covered its areas of learning through activities adapted to individual children. Assessments helped staff decide what to introduce next.

Communication ran through ordinary routines. In April 2025, staff combined conversation with signs and visual cards, explaining new vocabulary as opportunities arose. Children also chose their play resources, helped clear up, washed their hands and poured drinks. Small responsibilities gave them opportunities to practise doing things for themselves.

Care and Support

At the April 2025 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective. In April 2025, staff used home visits before children started to learn about their families, alongside a settling process attentive to individual emotional needs. Calm speech and conversations at children's level supported daily routines and behaviour.

Parents received daily spoken updates, photographs online and learning books in April 2025. Meetings each term explored learning and next steps, while activities tailored for home connected nursery experiences with family life. Staff worked with parents and other professionals when arranging additional support and deciding how to use funding.

Health had practical expression too. In April 2025, weekly wellbeing sessions helped children recognise their feelings, outdoor play took place daily, and brush bus activities taught tooth care. Parents supplied lunch boxes, with staff encouraging healthy choices; children also had healthy snacks.

Leaders observed staff interactions and used these observations to shape training in April 2025. Regular supervision and appraisals supported staff development, connecting professional learning with day-to-day practice.

The Verdict

For parents planning weekday care across the year, the opening window and Christmas closure are useful starting points.
