A church hall, an adjoining school room and three outdoor areas give Kibworth Methodist Pre-School its character. Play leads the learning here, with children encouraged to choose activities and explore materials. The premises are on one level, with accessible facilities, making the physical layout a useful consideration for families whose children need easier access.
Ofsted rated the pre-school Good on 12 January 2022 and judged safeguarding effective. It has capacity for 25 children; the children attending in January 2022 were aged two to four. That inspection gives a positive, dated account of everyday independence, alongside two clear teaching improvements to weigh when choosing the setting.
The current opening pattern is term time, with a shorter Friday and an optional packed-lunch club.
The EYFS provides the framework for learning through play, including children's communication, physical skills and social development. Kibworth's approach gives children scope to initiate their own activities rather than making adult direction the starting point for everything. For parents, the useful distinction is how that play becomes learning: children's interests should lead somewhere, rather than simply occupy the day.
In January 2022, an interest in birds became a connected sequence of experiences. Children looked for birds in the garden, made pictures for display and took a bird-spotting poster home. That linked observation, creative work and family involvement around something the children already wanted to investigate.
Everyday tasks also mattered in January 2022. Children chose a picture to identify themselves and selected a coat peg, while snack time included serving others and pouring drinks. These were practical opportunities to take responsibility. A relaxation activity involved yoga movements, giving children a different way to use their bodies alongside more active play.
The large church hall and adjoining school room provide the indoor base, with three accessible outdoor areas extending the space for play. Outdoor activity depends on the weather, and families supply suitable clothing and spare clothes. Glue, paint, water and mud are treated as part of exploration, so washable clothing is a practical choice.
In January 2022, children separated lunch packaging for recycling and helped clear the role-play area using a brush and dustpan. These small jobs connected looking after their surroundings with doing things for themselves. Older children also helped younger ones find coats, while staff demonstrated coat zips and praised children's efforts to fasten them independently.
The Childs Basket gives each child a personal place for work to take home, identified by their name and the same picture used on their coat peg. It offers parents a tangible connection with what their child has been making. The emphasis remains on the experience as well as the finished object.
In January 2022, staff regularly gathered parents' updates about children's changing interests and preferences. Support with toilet training helped connect routines at home and pre-school. Parents could approach staff beyond their child's key worker, which made communication less dependent on one person being present.
A SENCO role provides a point of responsibility for special educational needs, and staff training includes autism, signing, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour. Staff also hold paediatric first aid certificates. These are concrete arrangements for families to consider alongside the particular support their child needs.
In January 2022, additional staff delivered targeted group interventions for children needing extra help. Safeguarding practice at that time included updating staff knowledge, reporting welfare concerns and checking indoor and outdoor spaces before use. These are dated observations, rather than a description of today's staffing deployment.
The pre-school operates from the Methodist School Room on School Road, Kibworth Beauchamp, LE8 0JE. Opening hours are 9am to 3.30pm from Monday to Thursday and 9am to 1pm on Friday, during term time. The Friday finish matters when matching childcare to a working week.
Lunch club runs from noon to 1pm each weekday. The optional club has a separate attendance charge. Parents provide the packed lunch, and managing a lunch box gives children practice before school. An application form provides the joining route, and contact is through admin@kibworth.co.uk or telephone during opening hours.
In January 2022, the pre-school provided funded early education for children aged two, three and four. Its parent information includes Free Early Educational Entitlement and support with childcare costs, alongside provision for paid, non-funded hours. The setting operates during term time; families should obtain a current written quotation covering their agreed childcare and extras.
Parents supply lunch, while break-time food includes vegetables, fruit, a bread item and cheese, with milk or water; the lunch-box policy excludes nuts, including peanut butter. Families also provide nappies, wipes and nappy sacks for children who need them, so those supplies belong in the daily bag rather than the childcare fee.
Clothing, lunch boxes and other belongings need names. After vomiting or diarrhoea, children must stay away until at least 48 hours have passed since the last episode. That exclusion period has a direct bearing on family arrangements when a child is unwell.
Kibworth Methodist Pre-School suits families seeking term-time, play-based provision with outdoor space and the option of a packed-lunch club. Its single-level premises are a practical benefit; the January 2022 observations of children tackling everyday tasks independently add a dated reason to consider its approach.
The January 2022 account of bird watching, shared responsibilities and communication with parents gives substance to that approach. The same dated account identifies the questions that matter most: children's thinking time and learning about technology. Together with the shorter Friday, those points make for a clear, practical decision.
Ofsted rated it Good on 12 January 2022 and judged safeguarding effective. Improvement priorities concerned giving children more time to answer and developing their learning about technology.
Children attending in January 2022 were aged two to four. The pre-school has 25 places in total and operates from a church hall and adjoining school room.
Learning follows the EYFS through play and activities children help initiate. In January 2022, children's interest in birds led to garden observation, pictures and a poster to use at home.
In January 2022, it provided funded early education for two-, three- and four-year-olds. Its parent information includes Free Early Educational Entitlement, and it also offers paid, non-funded hours.
It opens during term time, from 9am to 3.30pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 1pm Friday. Optional lunch club runs from noon to 1pm each weekday, is charged separately and uses packed lunches supplied by parents.
