In March 2023, garden obstacle courses, dinosaur puzzles and greetings in children's home languages gave Busy Bees Leicester City a recognisable character. In March 2023, children were learning through movement, conversation and practical tasks, from balancing outdoors to working together on a puzzle. The strongest examples were small, everyday experiences with a clear purpose.
Ofsted rated the nursery Good on 30 March 2023, with improvement priorities concerning children's understanding of emotions and staff responses to their developing interests. Those priorities matter alongside the positive examples: warm interactions and purposeful activities need to leave room for what children want to explore.
At 146 Upper New Walk in Leicester, the nursery has capacity for 54 children, with an accepted age range from birth to five. Morning and afternoon attendance options sit alongside full-time childcare, giving families more than one way to organise their week.
The early years foundation stage sets the requirements for children's learning, development and care. In parent terms, that means learning through experiences that develop communication, physical skills and independence, rather than a day built around formal lessons.
In March 2023, younger children explored books with staff who talked about the vehicles pictured inside. Insect names and songs introduced new words, while older children used language about height and size as they built rockets and robots. These examples connected vocabulary to something children could see or handle. Words had a practical use.
A large dinosaur jigsaw brought older children together to discuss the picture and turn pieces into position. Seed planting introduced the relationship between growth, light and water. Looking at artists' paintings also led to conversations about shapes and chalk patterns, although some children wanted to investigate flowers instead and staff did not adapt the activity to follow that interest.
That last example is significant. An activity can have a sound educational purpose and still miss the child who wants to investigate something else. The March 2023 improvement priority was to respond more readily to those interests so children stayed involved in their learning.
In March 2023, the garden supported both energetic play and more deliberate physical practice. Children used tricycles, pursued bubbles and balanced along an obstacle course with a helping hand from staff. Counting games brought mathematical language outdoors, combining movement with conversation rather than keeping the two separate.
For babies, peg puzzles provided practice in coordinating hands and eyes. Staff also gave children who needed more support additional time to participate in physical activities. These were different ways into the day's learning, adapted to children's stage and pace.
In March 2023, staff greeted children using their home languages and comforted babies with cuddles and teddy bears. Those details made the relationship between home and nursery tangible.
At the March 2023 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective, with staff understanding how to report concerns, controlled visitor access and appropriate supervision. This is a dated judgement about practice at that visit.
Independence was part of everyday care in March 2023. Older children organised their cutlery and poured drinks into cups, while younger children received encouragement for managing a coat zip. Staff used photographs of children demonstrating behaviour expectations to make those expectations easier to understand.
Emotional understanding needed more attention. In March 2023, when construction models broke and other children laughed, staff missed opportunities to discuss the disappointment or explain how children could help each other. Families should weigh that specific weakness alongside the examples of reassurance and encouragement.
Communication with parents in March 2023 combined online contact with conversations in person. Parents generally understood what their children were learning. The useful distinction is between receiving an update and understanding its meaning: the examples of puzzles, language and self-care give families concrete starting points for those conversations.
The nursery opens Monday to Friday from 7.45am to 6pm and operates across the year, closing for bank holidays and Christmas. Morning, afternoon and full-time attendance options allow families to consider shorter sessions as well as a fuller weekly pattern.

Funded childcare options include 30 Hours working families funding, 15 Hours universal funding for children aged 3 and 4, and 15 hours for 2-year-olds receiving support. Eligibility applies to the relevant scheme; these options should not be read as a promise that every family's requested attendance will be funded.
Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation. The practical decision is how the funded entitlement fits the morning, afternoon or full-time pattern a family wants to use.
Busy Bees Leicester City suits families considering morning or afternoon sessions as well as full-time childcare. Its March 2023 Good judgement and concrete examples of language, outdoor movement and practical independence give parents useful grounds for considering it. The deciding questions concern how staff now follow children's interests and teach emotional understanding. Those are specific points to explore, rather than reasons to overlook the nursery's everyday strengths.
