A 36-place nursery inside Barnet Hospital, Barnet Hospital Nursery is registered for full day care on non-domestic premises at Wellhouse Lane, EN5 3DJ. Ofsted judged it Good on 24 November 2022, with effective safeguarding. The evidence available for this review comes from that inspection rather than a current nursery website, so its descriptions of practice are dated accordingly.
In November 2022, children were happy and safe, and staff held high expectations for what they could achieve. The strongest thread was purposeful independence: children laid tables, managed coats and fetched tissues for themselves. The nursery is on both the Early Years Register and compulsory Childcare Register.
In November 2022, staff delivered the Early Years Foundation Stage through varied learning planned from children's starting points and next steps. Adults used what each child already knew to plan experiences that built communication, physical development and confidence.
The inspection captured unusually concrete examples. Babies beginning to walk were given clear space around rearranged furniture for cruising. Pre-school children hammered nails into vegetables, pulled them out with pliers and cut broccoli, strengthening their hands through a demanding task. Climbing and balancing on ramps developed core strength, while songs, stories and adults' narration of play built vocabulary. Staff also used home-language words in routines for children learning English as an additional language.
In November 2022, key persons understood children's starting points and next steps. Leaders worked with parents and other professionals to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, while targeted small-group work supported language where needed.
Safeguarding was effective at that inspection. Staff knew how to respond to concerns, received regular training and helped children understand risk. Positive behaviour was reinforced through golden rules, a well done me medal and wall displays. Ofsted's improvement point was to strengthen the way staff development drives ongoing improvement.
The nursery is at Barnet Hospital, Wellhouse Lane, Barnet, EN5 3DJ. Its registration records 36 places and describes the provision as full day care. Families need to obtain the current hours, session windows, accepted ages, booking patterns, funding arrangements and a provider-specific quotation directly from the nursery.
Barnet Hospital Nursery's last inspection describes thoughtful, active learning rather than passive supervision. The examples are memorable: space made for early walkers, ambitious tool work for pre-school children, and routines that expected children to do things for themselves. Effective safeguarding and purposeful language support add substance.
It best suits families seeking full day care who value physical development, growing independence and language-rich practice. Because neither session windows nor alternative attendance patterns are currently published, parents needing anything other than full day care should establish the available pattern before relying on the setting.
Ofsted judged the nursery Good on 24 November 2022 and found safeguarding effective. Children were described as happy and safe, with staff holding high expectations.
Current accepted ages and the room list need checking directly. The November 2022 inspection observed babies beginning to walk and pre-school children, but those dated observations do not establish today's age bands or room structure.
In November 2022, babies had space to practise cruising, while pre-school children used hammers, pliers and cutting tools with vegetables. Songs, stories and narrated play supported language.
Families need to check directly which entitlements the nursery accepts and whether funded hours are offered term-time or stretched.
The provider is registered as full day care, but families need to check current days, hours, session windows and minimum booking requirements directly before applying.
