Bright Horizons New Southgate Day Nursery and Preschool

This 58-place New Southgate setting has a serious current inspection position. In February 2026, safeguarding standards were not met and Ofsted said it intended to take enforcement action. Urgent improvement was needed in behaviour and routines, welfare and wellbeing, inclusion, and leadership and governance. Families should read that position before considering the strengths recorded during the same inspection.

In February 2026, experiences varied sharply. Baby-room staff planned tummy time to strengthen core muscles, and stronger interactions used songs, stories, repetition and descriptive language. Children also collected rainwater in jugs, explored splashing sounds, made potato prints, sang, danced and took part in role play.

The setting works within the Early Years Foundation Stage, the English framework through which young children develop communication, physical and personal skills through play and everyday routines. However, the provider was not meeting its requirements in February 2026. Some questions gave children too little time to answer, some learning was incidental, and activities involving alphabet letters or telling the time were not always developmentally suitable.

Some key-person relationships were warm and reassuring, but practice was inconsistent. Room-transition handovers did not always give a new key person enough understanding of a child's needs or learning. Children with special educational needs and disabilities did not consistently receive prompt, well-targeted help.

Safeguarding is the decisive concern. Some staff did not understand how to report concerns about children's wellbeing or use whistleblowing procedures, while leaders' checks on staff's continuing suitability were not sufficiently rigorous.

The nursery is registered at 60 Beaconsfield Road, London N11 3AE, with 58 places. No current provider website was available in the frozen evidence, so this review does not state sessions, accepted ages, funding, meals, consumables or booking patterns.

• Regulatory position. Ofsted said enforcement action was intended and no later monitoring or regulatory outcome was recorded. Before applying, confirm the current registration and enforcement position with the provider and Ofsted.
• Safeguarding and leadership. Confirm what has changed since the 2026 findings on whistleblowing knowledge, staff-suitability checks and oversight of practice, and seek current evidence that these urgent weaknesses have been addressed.
• Daily consistency. Check how key-person handovers, SEND support, behaviour guidance and waiting during transitions now work in practice. These were not consistently secure in February 2026.

There were recognisable strengths, especially baby-room physical development, children's independence and the better language interactions. They do not outweigh the current evidence of urgent weaknesses across safeguarding, wellbeing, inclusion and leadership. This setting may suit only families satisfied that the present regulatory position and evidence of improvement meet their needs; no attendance pattern can be recommended because none was published in the evidence.
