The August 2025 visit captured learning at very different stages. Garden materials gave older children reasons to investigate and experiment, while stories became a springboard for younger children's quiet listening and sensory play.

Mara follows the Early Years Foundation Stage. In parent language, this means children learn through play and well-timed adult interaction across communication, physical, personal and early learning, with experiences shaped around individual interests. Inspectors saw stimulating activities indoors and varied outdoor learning. A world map showing the countries represented by families helped children discuss culture and understand their wider community.

Staff encouraged independence and curiosity. Children also practised the social work of nursery life: older children resolved small disagreements, apologised and made sure that friends were ready to keep playing. These observations show learning stretching beyond planned activities into negotiation, empathy and self-control.

Outdoor work was purposeful rather than a break from learning. Water experiments invited children to test pouring, while herbs became material for imaginative perfume-making. For younger children, familiar stories moved into messy and sensory play, giving them another way to revisit language and ideas.

Secure relationships are a strength. Ofsted found respectful, caring interactions and strong parent partnerships, with regular feedback and responses to parents' ideas. This matters for younger children in particular: quick settling and secure bonds give them a dependable base from which to explore. For parents, two-way feedback also creates a route for home knowledge to shape nursery practice rather than communication flowing in only one direction. Staff identified additional needs promptly, sought referrals and arranged targeted support for children with SEND.

Safeguarding was effective at the August 2025 inspection. Staff explained rules rather than merely enforcing them, including teaching younger children to use the playhouse door instead of climbing through its window. The example is small but revealing: children learned why a safer choice mattered and could apply it themselves, rather than depending only on an adult stopping them. Healthy meals and snacks were cooked on site, with staff discussing nutrition and encouraging children to try new food. However, staff could not always support colleagues during routines. Leaders were asked to make everyday routines, including mealtimes, run more smoothly.

Teaching precision is the other priority. Leaders were asked to sharpen staff coaching so adults make each exchange count and turn planned aims into dependable learning. This is a focused improvement point rather than a judgement that children were standing still: children still made good progress through stimulating work shaped around their interests.

The registration classifies the setting as full day care, open through the year except bank holidays. This classification does not establish the sessions families can buy. The nursery must supply current booking patterns and a written nursery-specific quotation directly.

Funding participation, meal charges and the treatment of non-food consumables remain open practical questions. They belong on the same pre-registration checklist. The on-site cooking observed in 2025 establishes how food was prepared, but it does not settle its treatment within the nursery’s current terms.

• Learning precision. Staff coaching needs to make the purpose of an activity translate more reliably into useful adult-child exchanges. Ask how leaders now observe and develop this practice.
• Daily routines. Mealtimes did not always run smoothly because staff could not consistently support one another. Discuss changes in staffing and organisation at busy transitions.
• Booking and costs. The full day care classification is not a booking menu. Obtain the current written terms and compare them with the pattern your family needs.

Mara Nursery's strongest case rests on calm relationships, responsive support and memorable garden exploration. The Good inspection gives families useful assurance while also identifying clear next steps around teaching precision and routines.
