Safeguarding arrangements were effective. Mara accepts children from two months to five years, and its standard nursery day runs from 8am to 6pm.

Rooms and Ages

Pumpkins, Wild Yams, Sweetpeas, Elderberries and Runnerbeans each have their own daily routine. This is a broad age span, from babies through to children approaching school, so the named-room structure matters: families can see that routines are intended to change with children’s age and stage rather than follow one all-purpose timetable.

The EYFS is the statutory framework for children from birth to five. In practice, it means learning through play, conversation, relationships and daily routines. Mara layers the Curiosity Approach and Planning in the Moment over that foundation. The first uses natural and open-ended materials to invite exploration; the second lets practitioners extend learning as opportunities arise in play. Each room also has a personalised Continuous Provision plan on a flexible six-week cycle, giving staff a planned starting point that can still move with children’s interests.

Learning and Named Experiences

Forest School at Mara is not a bare badge. The sessions use challenging but achievable tasks to develop confidence, independence and practical skills. That gives children a recurring route into outdoor learning, rather than relying solely on occasional trips.

Mara’s Mini Bus expands the setting’s reach to swimming lessons, theatre trips, library visits and visits to GROW. Separately, the nursery names local parks, libraries, Brook Farm Open Space and Brook Farm Allotments among its consent-based outings, with curriculum-linked visits such as the fire station or post office also possible. These are useful examples of how a planned topic can be connected to places beyond the nursery.

Outdoor and Community Life

The purpose-built building includes a wraparound garden. In August 2025, older children investigated bugs, herbs, plants and water outdoors, while younger children used a cosy den for stories and sensory play. This was a snapshot of practice at that time, but it shows outdoor learning being used for both investigation and calmer, book-led experiences.

Relationships and Communication

Settling is planned around a key-staff relationship. Families are given structured sessions intended to help a child bond and feel secure, while the Famly app is used for care updates, messages, invoices and parents’ news feeds. That offers a clear practical route for keeping home and nursery information together.

In August 2025, staff gave families regular feedback during settling and room moves. They also identified additional needs promptly, made timely referrals and adapted support for individual children. Sessions and Attendance

Mara’s published nursery model is a fixed full day from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Set hours are agreed in advance and booked through Famly. This is a clear fit for families who need an established workday pattern, rather than a nursery selling separate morning and afternoon sessions.

The nursery offers government-funded childcare described as 15 or 30 hours. Eligibility applies, and families should request a current written quotation for their own attendance pattern and funded-hours arrangement.

Getting There

On-site parking is offered for collection and drop-off. The nursery also identifies Totteridge and Whetstone Underground station and local bus routes as nearby transport options, though it gives no journey time for either.

Moving on to School

Runner Beans children take part in a school-readiness enrichment programme. It covers name writing, phonics, sharing, emotional identification, role play and meet-and-greets with new teachers. The nursery also describes transition work with local schools. This supports preparation for the next stage, but attending Mara does not secure a school place: families still need to apply through the local authority admissions process for a state school.
