Holy Redeemer Playgroup is a 34-place sessional setting in Holy Redeemer Church Hall, Days Lane, Sidcup. Its latest full Ofsted inspection, in May 2021, judged it Good and found safeguarding effective. That dated picture is one of children settling confidently, children forming secure relationships with familiar assigned practitioners and a team that had corrected the weaknesses identified previously.
The clearest character comes from learning that moved between books, small-group talk and outdoor exploration. In May 2021, children connected a story about sunflowers with earlier learning about roots, while outdoor interests led to bug hunting and a bug hotel.
In May 2021, the playgroup followed a planned curriculum through the Early Years Foundation Stage. For parents, this means play, stories, conversation and practical activity helped children master new knowledge and skills rather than relying on school-style lessons.
The inspection captured useful specifics. Children identified animals on picture cards, sang songs and answered questions; older or more confident children helped others find name tags at snack time. Outside, wheeled toys sat alongside insect exploration. These examples show staff linking language, cooperation and curiosity across the session.
Ofsted's two development points matter. Staff needed to extend older children's concentration more consistently during everyday activities and apply communication-and-language aims more evenly across the team.
In May 2021, children settled confidently with familiar staff, and assigned practitioners showed close familiarity with the children they supported. The team monitored progress together, worked with parents and followed advice from outside professionals to identify gaps and support children who needed more help.
Safeguarding was effective at that inspection. Staff understood child-protection concerns and escalation, kept the church hall secure from other users and taught children how to respond in an emergency. Children also practised everyday boundaries, including sitting safely at snack time and sharing resources.
The playgroup operates from Holy Redeemer Church Hall, Days Lane, Sidcup, DA15 8JR, with 34 places in total. It is sessional day care rather than an all-day nursery profile.
Families should request the current session pattern, accepted ages, attendance requirements and provider-specific quotation directly before making plans.
Holy Redeemer Playgroup's strongest documented qualities are personal: confident settling, close practitioner-child familiarity and children helping one another. The sunflower discussion and bug-hotel project give the 2021 inspection unusual texture, while the Good judgement and effective safeguarding provide clear regulatory context.
This is most likely to suit families specifically seeking sessional care in a church-hall playgroup rather than full-day or extended-day provision. The age range and exact weekly patterns need confirming before it can be judged against a family's timetable.
Ofsted judged the playgroup Good in May 2021 and found safeguarding effective. Inspectors highlighted confident settling, close practitioner-child familiarity and a planned curriculum, alongside improvements needed in older children's concentration and consistent communication-and-language teaching.
It has 34 places in total. This is whole-setting capacity, not a room size or a statement about current availability.
In May 2021, children discussed how sunflower roots support plants, identified animals in small groups, used songs and stories for language, explored insects and built a bug hotel.
At the 2021 inspection, children settled with familiar staff, while assigned practitioners understood the children they supported and the team monitored progress together and worked with parents and outside professionals when further support was needed.
It is recorded as sessional day care. Families should confirm the current days, times, accepted ages and attendance pattern directly with the playgroup.
