Rooms and Learning

Tots, Toddler and Pre-School each have their own published maximum daily group size: nine, 12 and nine children respectively. Toddlers have an adjacent mini free-flow area that is open through the day for indoor and outdoor learning. The Pre-School room puts self-care, independence, sharing and teamwork alongside preparation for school. Those priorities give the later stage a practical shape, centred on routines children can manage for themselves.

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the statutory framework for learning, development and care from birth to five. For children, it means learning through play, conversation, routines and planned experiences rather than formal lessons. In April 2023, inspectors saw older children turn interest in snails into maps of suitable habitats, while toddlers extended underwater stories through water play and babies used early mealtime language.

Named Experiences

Sing & Sign is a weekly term-time session where babies and toddlers learn signs for words. Mini Wave adds music, movement, sensory play and social play for the same younger groups. Together, those repeated sessions give children with emerging speech more than one way to join in.

Pre-School's published programme includes weekly PhonicsStars sessions, designed as interactive phonics, alongside Kindergarden's exploration of plants, flowers and mini beasts in the garden. Tiny Tekkers is a weekly activity for concentration, listening, following instructions, teamwork, ball skills, coordination and dexterity. The combination is concrete: early literacy, outdoor enquiry and physical control recur across the week rather than appearing as a one-off event.

The April 2023 report describes staff who knew children well and built trusting relationships. Babies sought familiar adults for comfort, and the account also includes effective work with parents and outside agencies for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Regular feedback and ideas for learning at home were part of that inspection-time picture.

It also describes staff who understood how to respond to concerns, alongside monitoring of work phones, online-safety measures and risk assessment including stairways.

A later compliance action in May 2023 found that a child's dietary needs had not been met and that requirements had been breached. Disciplinary action, staff training and enhanced allergy procedures followed. For a child with dietary needs, the current individual food plan, preparation arrangements and escalation process merit close discussion before a place is accepted.
