Rainbow Playgroup is a small sessional setting at Falconwood Community Centre, Falconwood Parade, Welling. It has capacity for 21 children. Its full inspection on 30 November 2022 judged it Good across education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
In November 2022, children settled quickly with staff who knew them well. The playgroup's strongest feature was the combination of secure key-person relationships and practical independence. Everyday routines gave children regular chances to take responsibility for themselves.
The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the areas of learning that shape children’s play, communication and physical development. In November 2022, the playgroup built its learning programme from observations and assessments of what children could already do. Fine-motor work gave children practice in control and coordination. Circle time asked every child to discuss feelings, while an imaginative shop encouraged turn-taking and shared play.
The garden added a useful physical dimension. In November 2022, outdoor play combined large-muscle activity with developing judgement about how to play safely.
In November 2022, familiar adults provided continuity and helped children feel at ease. Staff joined play, praised perseverance and modelled positive behaviour consistently. Support for children with special educational needs and disabilities was coordinated across the adults involved in each child's care.
Safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection. In November 2022, the playgroup's approach combined staff awareness, continued review and active management of risks. Recruitment, induction and ongoing suitability checks were also part of the arrangements.
The setting is at Falconwood Community Centre, Falconwood Parade, The Green, Welling, DA16 2PG, and has capacity for 21 children.
Rainbow Playgroup's 2022 inspection describes a warm, compact setting where relationships, independence and purposeful play worked together well. Physical play in the garden, shared pretend play and responsibility within daily routines give the clearest picture of its character. It suits families seeking a small playgroup centred on familiar relationships, practical independence and purposeful play, while the inspection's challenge around extending language and learning remains the key question to test.
