Risedale Pre School is a 45-place sessional setting in the Methodist Church Hall on Risedale Road, Barnehurst. Ofsted judged it Good in November 2022, finding that children made good progress from their starting points and that safeguarding arrangements were effective.
The strongest thread is purposeful independence. In November 2022, children chose toys, found their names for registration, poured drinks and selected snacks. Those ordinary routines gave them repeated chances to make decisions and ask for help confidently.
The curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage: play and adult guidance build children's communication, physical, personal, social and early academic development. In November 2022, the setting placed special emphasis on communication and language and personal, social and emotional development.
Learning was active and concrete. Children marched and stretched, built a block house large enough to climb inside, balanced scales and compared the length and width of constructions. Staff introduced descriptive words and helped children listen and interact. Ofsted's improvement point was equally specific: staff should make better use of children's emerging interests during child-led play to secure new learning.
In November 2022, older children settled quickly with friends while younger children forming relationships with their key person received comfort and reassurance. The SENCO used targeted plans and worked with parents and other professionals. This matters for families seeking joined-up support rather than isolated interventions.
Safeguarding was effective at that inspection. Staff understood signs of possible harm and referral procedures, while the manager checked ongoing staff suitability and premises safety.
The setting is at Methodist Church Hall, Risedale Road, Barnehurst, Bexley Heath, DA7 6LJ. It has 45 places in total and operates as sessional day care.
Risedale Pre School's inspection evidence shows a warm, practical setting where independence, language and relationships shape the day. It best suits families looking for sessional preschool care and who value learning through hands-on play. Families needing particular days or hours should establish the current pattern before applying.
Ofsted judged the setting Good in November 2022. Ofsted found that children made good progress and safeguarding arrangements were effective, while asking staff to extend children's interests more consistently during child-led activities.
The setting has 45 places in total. This is whole-setting capacity, not a room or group size.
The 2022 inspection described strong emphasis on communication, language, personal development and independence, supported through practical play and daily routines.
Families should discuss eligibility, participation and any associated charges directly with the setting because these arrangements can change.
It is registered as sessional day care. Families should ask the setting for its current attendance patterns and times.
