The inspection captured children singing Christmas carols with a microphone and karaoke machine. Activities followed children’s interests and next developmental steps, and children showed both engagement and sustained concentration. Staff listened to their ideas rather than simply directing the play. Two limitations matter, however: routines sometimes moved children on before they had fully developed an idea, and adults occasionally solved problems too quickly. Both points concern how children are given time and space to think, rather than a lack of activities.

Staff knew children's starting points, interests and progress well. Key-person communication gave parents information about learning, next steps and practical support at home. That continuity matters for families who want a clear account of how their child is developing.

Support for children with SEND was judged Good. Staff explained how neurodivergence training shaped planning, interactions and activity adaptations. That is practical inclusion: the activity changes in response to the child, rather than expecting every child to approach it in the same way.

Children were also encouraged to manage self-care and develop healthy habits. At snack time they chose between several fruits; the inspector also saw them enjoying freshly prepared spaghetti bolognese and asking for more. These are inspection-day observations, not a current menu promise, but they show independence being practised through ordinary routines as well as planned learning.

Rules and boundaries were discussed at the start of the day. Staff helped children use good manners and share, while the predictable routine let them understand what would happen next. The balance is important: the same structure that gave security was also the element inspectors wanted organised more flexibly when play was developing well.
