New Dawn Nursery

A rapid regulatory turnaround defines New Dawn Nursery's short history. Registered in January 2024 for 50 places, this sessional setting at Alperton Baptist Church was judged Good in July 2025, five months after an Inadequate judgement. The later inspection found that safeguarding practice had improved significantly and was effective.

Children were happy, settled and confident in exploring. Familiar staff and an established key-person system helped them feel secure, while a broad curriculum responded to individual needs and backgrounds. This is encouraging evidence from a specific visit, rather than a promise that every day will look identical.

The July 2025 inspection gives a lively picture of learning through play. Staff followed children's interest in building sites with relevant books and introduced vocabulary such as excavator. A fire-brigade visit developed fire-safety knowledge, while a dental-nurse visit helped children remember what causes cavities and why oral health matters.

The Early Years Foundation Stage turns learning into play across communication, physical development and wider early learning. Communication and language were a strength. Staff modelled words and sentences, narrated play and used visual aids for children less confident in speech. Children also developed hand control through malleable materials, pencils and scissors, alongside dancing and yoga. Ofsted nevertheless asked the nursery to provide more vigorous, challenging and risky play, and to plan activities that engage and challenge older children more consistently.

The established key-person system meant staff knew children and families well at the inspection. Children took helper roles, responded to reminders about listening and received praise for following nursery rules. Parent partnerships kept families informed about care and learning.

Staff identified gaps in learning quickly and gave targeted help. Children with SEND made strong progress in the July 2025 findings. Ofsted found safeguarding effective at that visit and recorded improved systems and staff knowledge.

• Outdoor challenge. The July 2025 inspection called for more consistent vigorous, challenging and risky play. Ask how the current weekly routine now develops gross-motor confidence.
• Challenge for older children. Planned activities did not always sustain or extend older children's engagement. Ask for current examples of how staff adapt activities for children nearing school age.
• Practical terms. Current session, funding and charge details need direct confirmation. Obtain accepted ages, attendance patterns, funded-hours arrangements, meals, consumables and notice terms in writing.

New Dawn Nursery's strongest case is its documented improvement: five months after an Inadequate judgement, the July 2025 inspection found effective safeguarding, secure relationships, purposeful language work and good support for SEND. The two improvement points remain relevant questions, not footnotes. It may suit families who value a sessional setting with close key-person relationships and those prioritising communication support, provided its current attendance pattern meets their needs after direct confirmation.
