Children compared different-sized balls of play dough, explored a chestnut using words such as hairy and spiky, and connected Goldilocks and the Three Bears with tasting porridge. Outdoor play included digging in mud, riding scooters and climbing trees under supervision. Ofsted also identified two clear development points: staff did not always allow enough response time to extend thinking, and more complex vocabulary needed to be used consistently.

Relationships were a strength in October 2022. Staff knew children well, parents valued the family feeling and children settled quickly. Parent partnership was strong, including support as children prepared to start school.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection. The premises were secure, recruitment and vetting were effective, training was current, and staff understood referral procedures. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities received coordinated support through work with specialist professionals.
