A long-established sessional preschool with 36 registered places, Jigsaw Preschool Committee operates from Coney Hill Baptist Church in West Wickham. Its latest full Ofsted inspection, on 12 October 2022, judged it Good and found safeguarding effective.
The strongest impression from that visit was a close-knit setting where staff knew children well. Children were curious, willing to try and quick to settle. As the evidence is inspection-only, those observations describe practice in October 2022 rather than a current daily offer.
In October 2022, the curriculum was organised around the skills and knowledge children needed next, with staff assessing development and planning subsequent learning. This follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, which develops learning through play and adult guidance towards children's next steps.
The detail was memorable. Children compared different-sized balls of play dough, explored a chestnut using words such as hairy and spiky, and connected Goldilocks and the Three Bears with tasting porridge. Outdoor play included digging in mud, riding scooters and climbing trees under supervision. Ofsted also identified two clear development points: staff did not always allow enough response time to extend thinking, and more complex vocabulary needed to be used consistently.
Relationships were a strength in October 2022. Staff knew children well, parents valued the family feeling and children settled quickly. Parent partnership was strong, including support as children prepared to start school.
Safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection. The premises were secure, recruitment and vetting were effective, training was current, and staff understood referral procedures. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities received coordinated support through work with specialist professionals.
The preschool is at Coney Hill Baptist Church, Coney Hill Road, West Wickham, BR4 9BU. It is recorded as sessional day care with 36 registered places and Early Years Register coverage only.
Current session times, attendance patterns, accepted ages and funding arrangements need direct verification with the setting. The same applies to meals, consumables and a current quotation.
Jigsaw Preschool Committee's latest inspection described a friendly, well-supported team whose children were curious, active and secure. The woodland exploration, porridge tasting and supervised tree climbing give the evidence real character. Yet this is an inspection-era picture, not a current prospectus.
It may suit families seeking a sessional preschool with an emphasis on exploratory play and close adult knowledge of each child. Whether it suits families needing particular morning, afternoon or other session patterns cannot be judged until the setting confirms what it currently offers.
