The February 2022 visit showed age-specific play in action. Babies' experiences connected shared stories, music and supported movement; toddlers investigated materials through art and building; older children combined cooperative physical play with early spatial ideas at different stages. Those are unusually concrete examples of a day built around movement, making and talk. Staff used songs to give physical practice a playful rhythm, while construction gave toddlers a reason to test balance and shape. The parachute task required older children to listen, follow instructions and cooperate, linking physical development with social learning rather than treating those areas separately.

The same inspection described older children as nature detectives who planted and grew things. It also identified a limitation: babies needed richer sensory play. Staff sometimes missed chances to extend children's thinking and language during block play. Progress against both points is now a central subject for a visit. The contrast matters: the report found varied opportunities overall, but the youngest children did not consistently receive the same depth of sensory exploration. Likewise, planned activities were interesting, yet the quality of adult conversation varied. Parents can use those two precise points to judge present practice rather than relying on the overall grade alone.

The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the educational framework. This means children learn through play: adults observe their next steps and plan experiences across communication, physical development, personal and social development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts. Relationships were a strength in February 2022. The inspection evidence points to settled children and an established social culture: they understood behavioural expectations and treated peers kindly. The bumble-bee reward routine reinforced positive behaviour, while Bella the Bear went home with children before they shared its adventures with the group.

Parents told the inspector that they valued the caring staff, communication through the nursery app and support for children's progress. Staff had received emotional-literacy training, helping children express feelings. Safeguarding was judged effective, with secure suitability systems and revised risk assessments for indoor and outdoor care. Leaders were also credited with evaluating the nursery, supporting professional development and prioritising staff wellbeing. Hygiene and sensitive toileting routines contributed to children’s personal care, while morning physical activity for older children and music-and-movement work for toddlers added regular exercise.

The setting is registered at 19 Bromley Grove, Shortlands, Bromley, BR2 0LP. The provider record describes an all-year pattern, closing on bank holidays and for one week at Christmas. It does not supply a current bookable session menu, so the nursery needs to explain how families can combine attendance across the week.
