Books, local outings and carefully tailored settling-in gave Hampstead Baby Care Nursery a clear character at its July 2023 inspection. The setting, at Suite B, 1-3 Canfield Place in London, serves children aged six months to five years. Ofsted judged it Good, with effective safeguarding, on that visit.

Secure, confident children formed affectionate bonds with attentive staff. Ofsted also recorded high expectations and plenty of interesting outdoor learning in July 2023. Those strengths matter, but families need to weigh them alongside significant later regulatory action from November 2025, discussed below.

The Early Years Foundation Stage shapes provision here. In parent terms, that means play and adult guidance should build children's communication, physical development, relationships and early learning rather than follow a school timetable. In July 2023, staff built on individual interests and encouraged independence through everyday tasks such as storing shoes, using cutlery and washing hands.

The experiences recorded in July 2023 were unusually concrete. Toddlers explored soil with plastic insects and spaghetti worms, while older children developed pretend cooking and doll play. Books ran through the age groups: babies and toddlers enjoyed stories, and older children carried familiar narratives into imaginative play during a park walk. This made early literacy active rather than confined to story time.

Outdoor learning extended into the neighbourhood. In July 2023, children visited local shops, the station, library and park. These trips developed community knowledge, physical coordination and curiosity about minibeasts.

Relationships were a strength in July 2023. Children appeared secure and ready to learn, while settling-in sessions were adjusted to the individual child. Families also received story bags and other resources for learning at home. The setting valued children's cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including opportunities for children learning English to hear and use their home languages.

Staff monitored progress and sought advice from other professionals when children needed targeted help. Ofsted nevertheless asked leaders to make written progress checks clearer about where help was needed and how it was being provided. It also found that staff helped children share and resolve disagreements, but did not consistently teach the consequences of actions or their effect on other people's feelings.

Ofsted found safeguarding effective in July 2023: staff understood that signs of abuse and the procedures for concerns, supported by recruitment, induction and risk assessment arrangements. The later welfare requirements notice means families should not treat that historic judgement as a current assurance.

The record lists opening hours of 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, across the year. The provider remained registered in that document, but its Ofsted page was subsequently listed as closed with no later outcome document linked. The setting’s operation and completion of every required action are therefore threshold issues for any application.
• Progress and behaviour practice. The July 2023 inspection asked for clearer written progress checks and more consistent teaching about how actions affect other people. Current leadership practice in both areas should form part of a visit discussion.
• Attendance and total cost. A written offer should set out bookable full-day or half-day patterns, funded-hours position, meals, consumables and closures. This turns the recorded operating window into a realistic family budget and weekly plan.

At its 2023 inspection, Hampstead Baby Care Nursery combined warm relationships with memorable local and imaginative experiences. Tailored settling-in, story bags, home-language support and trips to the library, park, station and shops gave the observed provision substance.

The unresolved published position after the November 2025 welfare requirements notice is decisive, however. This setting could suit families seeking both full-day care and half-day sessions for a child aged six months to five years only where current operation, suitable session arrangements and regulatory compliance are clear first.
