Turtles Nursery

Turtles Nursery is a 30-place setting for children aged six months to four years at 47 Dudley Court, 36 Endell Street, London WC2H 9RF. Ofsted judged it Good in August 2025, with effective safeguarding. The strongest thread is purposeful learning through ordinary play: mathematics, language and independence are embedded in activities rather than saved for formal group work.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum combines play, adult interaction and planned activities to build children's communication, physical, personal and early academic development. In August 2025, staff combined planned activities with child-led exploration. Stories, songs, conversation and repeated language supported communication, while mathematics appeared in play.

The detail is memorable. Children mixed dough with herbs and spices, made shopping lists for strawberry-flavoured tea in the play kitchen and worked out how many plates and pieces of cutlery were needed for lunch. Outdoors, children combined water, soil, leaves and bark; toddlers balanced on wooden planks, and children also took part in yoga. These examples show sensory investigation, early writing, calculation and physical confidence working together.

Staff supported communication through stories, songs and sustained conversation. Younger children heard language modelled and repeated, while group times encouraged children to join familiar phrases and actions. Praise supported self-esteem and positive behaviour. Children discussed golden rules, shared resources and took turns, so expectations were made concrete rather than left as abstract rules.

The inspection also records leaders using self-evaluation, staff-practice reviews and progress information to identify gaps and arrange training. That matters because the nursery had clear next steps as well as strengths: quieter children needed more consistent inclusion, and parts of the daily routine needed sharper planning.

By August 2025, familiar adults had helped children settle into nursery life and approach it with confidence. Toddlers fed themselves, children shared resources and older children showed care towards younger ones, giving independence and consideration a practical place in the day.

Support for children with special educational needs and disabilities was effective, with parents and external agencies involved. Children made significant progress. Safeguarding arrangements were effective, although the inspection asked leaders to include quieter children more fully in planned activities and reduce unoccupied waiting during routines such as nap time.

Relationships also supported exploration. Toddlers moved confidently between activities, knowing that adults were close enough to help with balance and self-care. Staff used repetition rather than rushing younger children towards an answer. For parents, the implication is a day in which care and learning are connected: feeding oneself develops independence, a conversation develops vocabulary, and sharing at group time develops social confidence.

School transition was supported through detailed information for receiving schools. Combined with children's progress in communication, number and independence, that gives the oldest children several practical foundations for Reception. It does not confer priority for any school place.

Preparation for school was practical. Older children calculated quantities at lunch, developed early writing through role play and received transition support through information shared with schools. These are small, specific building blocks for moving on: managing personal tasks, communicating clearly and applying number ideas in ordinary situations.

The registered age range is six months to four years and capacity is 30 places. The initial enquiry should cover which full-day or part-day patterns can be bought, alongside current terms and a provider-specific quotation.

• Daily routines. Ofsted asked leaders to reduce waiting without purposeful occupation around routines such as nap time. Progress since the inspection is an important visit question.
• Quieter children. The inspection identified fuller inclusion in planned activities as a next step. For a reserved child, staff strategies for drawing children into groups deserve attention.
• Booking detail. Attendance patterns are not set out here. The booking model and notice terms will decide practical fit.

Turtles Nursery suits families who value a compact setting where language, mathematics and independence are woven through play. The Good inspection, secure relationships and strong SEND progress are reassuring. It may work for families seeking weekday care within the published opening window, but both full-day and part-day users need clarity on the attendance patterns offered.
