Children were not expected to watch adults carry the activity. During songs and rhymes, they chose lines in turn and waited with visible excitement for their part. When play produced an unexpected object such as a seed, staff used that moment to introduce vocabulary. This combination gave children reasons to speak, listen and repeat new words.

Children formed warm relationships with staff and were happy and confident in September 2021, including when separating from parents under changed pandemic routines. A calm, consistent approach supported kind behaviour. At lunch, children used cutlery independently and received specific guidance when they needed it.

Ofsted found safeguarding effective in September 2021. Leaders understood their responsibilities, staff knew reporting procedures, recruitment checks supported suitability, and deployment kept children supervised. Coordinated work with parents and outside agencies helped children with special educational needs make good progress.

Regular supervision and feedback helped staff feel supported, while leaders and practitioners evaluated the provision and children's progress. For families, that points to a team that was reviewing its work rather than relying only on established routines. Hygiene was also embedded in the daily pattern observed in 2021.
