In November 2021, children enjoyed learning through sensory, mathematical and imaginative play. These observations give the old Good judgement useful substance, but the date matters because they do not describe a current service.

The same inspection identified limits. Adults sometimes directed outdoor activities too closely, ending children's play before they had developed their own ideas, and older children were not always given enough thinking time after questions.

In November 2021, key persons knew children well and used parents' information and observations to assess learning. Younger children's communication received focused support through narrated play, visual prompts and simple one-to-one games. Staff also worked with parents and outside agencies for children with special educational needs and disabilities. During internal room transitions in 2021, staff passed assessment information to the pre-school team so learning could continue from an understood baseline.

Relationships and routines were another positive part of that dated picture. Children separated from parents, began playing with friends and behaved respectfully. Mealtimes included discussion of favourite fruit and vegetables, while staff taught language for feelings and family-photo displays encouraged children to talk about their lives. In November 2021, inspectors found that familiar staff arrangements gave children reassurance as attendance resumed after national restrictions.

The 2026 regulatory record changes the safety picture materially. Ofsted raised requirements concerning checks, supervision, staff competence, premises and fire safety, safe sleep, hygiene and risk reduction. Although several physical and procedural issues had improved by 25 March, cleaning materials remained accessible to children and not every required action had been met.
