Busy Bees Fulham

At a Glance

A dance studio gives Busy Bees Fulham room for yoga, cooking and movement, while a large garden takes play outdoors. These are useful physical spaces for families who want both active play and quieter creative experiences within the nursery day. The setting sits in Munster Village, at 57 Filmer Road, London SW6 7JF.

At its February 2022 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good overall. That judgement has a practical qualification for parents of babies: the improvement points concerned interaction during lunch and access to resources for children under one. Both deserve attention alongside the garden and studio.

Busy Bees Fulham has capacity for 130 children, accepting ages from three months to five years. Morning, afternoon and full-day bookings give families different ways to use the setting, with year-round attendance rather than a term-time-only calendar.

The Nursery Experience

Learning and Activities

The early years foundation stage provides the framework for learning, development and care: children build language, physical skills and independence through play and everyday routines. Alongside it, the group-wide Bee Curious curriculum uses children's interests to shape activities, combining planned learning with creative exploration. Role play and stories support communication; counting, patterns and practical problems introduce mathematical ideas.

Fulham's dance studio brings cooking classes, yoga and movement into the offer. It gives these activities a dedicated indoor space, rather than making physical play depend entirely on the garden. Activities built around the Book of the Moment connect afternoon play with a selected book, providing a thread between stories and other experiences.

The baby timetable includes sensory exploration of texture and colour, outdoor play and pauses for stories or rest. Naps follow the child's routine at home, with quiet activity or sleep also built into the middle of the day. For older children, outdoor learning, group activities and stories sit alongside maths and problem solving. The emphasis changes with development rather than simply repeating the baby day.

In February 2022, older children tested predictions about objects sinking or floating, while toddlers used flower petals to make pictures and explored words for their colours and scent. These examples show how practical play can give children something concrete to investigate and discuss. Making models from dough also introduced descriptive vocabulary through the things children created.

Outdoor and Community Life

The large garden is a substantial part of the current offer. Outdoor exploration appears in both the baby and older-child timetables, giving movement and contact with nature a place alongside indoor activities.

In February 2022, a small artificial hill provided practice in climbing and balance, and children steered wheeled toys around the garden. Growing vegetables and herbs brought plant care into play, including watering. Those examples describe the garden's use at that time, rather than establishing today's equipment list.

Care and Support

Relationships and Communication

A key person is part of the learning approach, linking a child's everyday care with their activities and development. The Busy Bees App provides updates during the day, giving parents a way to follow their child's progress while apart.

In February 2022, familiar activities and routines helped children settle, with staff learning their preferences. Daily conversations and electronic diaries connected nursery and home; parents could add comments, and activity bags supplied materials for learning together outside nursery. These were practical ways to make communication useful beyond a handover.

Inclusion and Wellbeing

At the February 2022 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and good progress for children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Progress checks informed the challenges staff planned at that time, linking observation with what children did next.

The current safeguarding arrangements include controlled entry, collection procedures and staff trained in paediatric first aid.

The baby improvement points were specific. In February 2022, adults did not consistently engage babies in conversation or interaction while feeding them, and resources were often beyond the reach of children under one. The practical issue was both social contact at meals and the opportunity to choose play independently.

Meals are cooked at the nursery by its chef, with seasonal menus accredited by NHS Startwell. Dietary needs, cultural preferences and allergies are discussed with the centre director so that alternatives can be arranged.

Practical Information

Sessions and Attendance

Full Day runs from 8am to 6pm, Morning from 8am to 1pm, and Afternoon from 1pm to 6pm. Full Week covers Monday to Friday, also from 8am to 6pm. The minimum weekly booking is one full day or two morning or afternoon sessions; childcare is booked in sessions rather than by the hour.

The ordinary opening window is 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays. The fee sheet also offers an Early Session from 7.30am to 8am and a Late Session from 6pm to 6.30pm, with time outside the full day requiring advance booking. The nursery operates across 52 weeks, closes on bank holidays and retains the usual charges for those closures. Absence for sickness or holidays does not bring a refund or replacement session.

Enquiries can be made through the Fulham contact form or central enrolments on 0330 333 8133. Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation.

Getting There

On-site parking supports journeys by car. Parsons Green Underground Station serves the District Line, providing a public transport option for this Filmer Road setting.

Funding and Paid Extras

Funded childcare is offered through the 15-hour and 30-hour schemes, subject to eligibility, with support also available for eligible two-year-olds. Fulham stretches funding over 50 weeks: the weekly maximum is 11.4 hours for the 15-hour scheme and 22.8 hours for the 30-hour scheme. Hours beyond the entitlement are charged privately, and non-funded periods also attract the standard charges.

Private childcare fees include meals, snacks and drinks. During funded sessions, food and non-food consumables such as sun cream, wipes and nappies carry separate optional charges, brought together in the group-wide Busy Bees One package. This distinction matters when comparing a funded booking with a privately paid session.

A non-refundable registration charge applies to private bookings, with part credited against the first invoice after starting. Fully funded places instead require a refundable deposit credited against that invoice, waived for two-year-olds using the local authority 15-hour scheme.

Things to Consider

  • Baby interaction and choice. February 2022 improvement points concerned engagement during feeding and resources within babies' reach. On a visit, ask how lunch is organised and how babies choose their own toys now.
  • Evening collection. The ordinary closing time is 6pm, while the fee sheet offers a pre-booked Late Session ending at 6.30pm. These timings conflict; establish the agreed collection time before committing to a booking.
  • The funded bill. Food and consumables have optional charges on funded sessions, and funding is stretched across 50 weeks. Request a written breakdown showing funded hours, paid hours and the arrangements for declining the package.
  • Dietary arrangements. The chef prepares meals on site and alternatives are arranged through discussion. Families managing allergies should confirm the current preparation and serving arrangements for their child.

The Verdict

Busy Bees Fulham suits families seeking morning or afternoon sessions as well as full-day attendance, with a garden and dance studio adding useful variety to the day. Cooking, yoga and book-linked activities give the offer concrete shape. The February 2022 Good judgement provides a dated quality reference; for a baby placement, the questions about mealtime engagement and independent access to toys should carry real weight.
