Activities were planned from what children already knew and what families shared, so learning could begin with a familiar interest and then move forward. Reading and singing gave words a repeated place in the day; movement and outdoor apparatus gave children equally regular ways to practise control, confidence and safe risk-taking.

Children also learned about similarities, differences and their community through celebrations including Diwali and Chinese New Year. Staff modelled kindness and polite language, helping children cooperate, take turns and form friendships. Training to reduce background noise had improved concentration and behaviour. Children progressed from their different starting points, and high expectations were made understandable through calm modelling rather than abstract rules. That combination matters in a mixed early-years setting: younger children can copy safe routines while older children practise patience and cooperation.

Home visits and information from families helped staff plan experiences around individual interests. Parents praised the team's care, concern and communication, which supported continuity between home and nursery. Staff assessed learning, identified additional needs and referred children and families for further support when required. Leaders evaluated the provision with parents and other professionals, then improved the indoor environment to create more opportunities for physical development. This shows a setting willing to change its space in response to evidence, not merely rotate tabletop activities.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective at the March 2022 inspection. Staff understood signs of abuse and reporting routes; children were supervised in a safe, secure environment. Two improvement points remained: professional development needed to be better targeted to individual staff, and handwashing before meals needed more consistent attention. The practical test is whether handwashing is now routine and coaching is tailored to each practitioner.
