Junior Adventures Group, Highgate Pre Prep N6

This is an after-school club rather than a day nursery. At its September 2023 inspection, it cared for children aged four to 11 at Highgate Pre-Preparatory School and the provision met the requirements assessed. Safeguarding arrangements were effective.

The club's character was social and purposeful. Children moved confidently through familiar routines, older children helped younger ones, and staff planned activities around children's interests.

During the September 2023 visit, children became absorbed in making origami chatterboxes, helping one another with the folds while staff used questions and storytelling to sustain the task. Art, craft and messy play were also popular. This was play shaped around children's interests rather than a formal extension of the school day.

The Early Years Foundation Stage means the youngest children learn through play and everyday routines while staff support their learning, development and care. Here, the inspection found that staff also kept abreast of school topics so they could reinforce learning when a child needed help.

A cosy reading area gave children somewhere calmer to relax with books. Staff had introduced it after reviewing what worked well and what could improve.

Relationships were a clear strength in September 2023. Staff gathered information from parents as children joined, children had secure bonds with the team, and parents described them as safe and well cared for. Older children modelled routines and tabletop-game rules for younger ones, while staff reinforced expectations calmly.

Safeguarding was effective at the inspection. Staff understood reporting procedures, completed safeguarding training and daily risk assessments, and supervised children closely. Leaders also used supervision meetings to identify training needs and concerns.

The club operates from Highgate Pre-Preparatory School, 7 Bishopswood Road, North Road, London N6 4PH. The September 2023 pattern was term-time after-school care from 3.30pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday. This is wraparound provision for school-aged children, not full-day nursery care.

This club suited children who wanted a sociable, activity-led end to the school day. The strongest evidence is the way staff connected care with the host school, helped mixed ages play well together and adapted activities to children's interests. It is aimed at term-time after-school attendance across selected weekdays, rather than morning, holiday or full-day care.
