In July 2023, children were happy, secure and keen to start their day. Staff knew children as individuals, adapted resources around their learning needs and interests, and planned a well-sequenced curriculum. This is a compact, inspection-led picture rather than a catalogue of facilities.

The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the framework: learning is built through play, conversation and carefully planned experiences across children's communication, physical, personal, social and wider development. In July 2023, the strongest example joined several of those strands. Children handled real vegetables in the role-play area, cut them for pretend soup and learned words such as parsnip while talking about ingredients. Imaginative play therefore carried practical skills and language together.

Children also chose activities in the garden, talked with friends and persisted with things that interested them. The manager had developed the outdoor space to give children a richer set of experiences outside. Staff adjusted activities for individual children and helped them work towards their own developmental milestones.

Relationships were a clear strength at the inspection. Children went to staff for reassurance, treated one another kindly and behaved well. Care routines also encouraged independence: children washed their hands, prepared themselves for snack and, with supervision, cleaned up after muddy outdoor play.

Support for children with special educational needs and disabilities was judged effective. Staff identified gaps, worked with external agencies where expert help was needed and undertook training to deliver targeted support. Parents told the inspector that communication helped them understand what their children were learning and what came next.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective in July 2023. Staff understood signs of possible abuse or harm, knew how to report concerns and completed regular training and risk assessments.
