Communication work was a strength in 2023. Very young children chose between named toys, while older children anticipated the next line of The Gruffalo and joined group attention sessions. Babies developed fine-motor control by brushing shaving foam onto pictures of teeth.

Outdoor provision also had substance. The spacious area supported balancing and jumping, while egg-and-spoon and sack races developed coordination and the social pleasure of cheering for others. Sports-day preparation gave the physical work a shared purpose rather than treating movement as free play alone. Children appeared happy and secure in a warm, friendly setting in June 2023. Practitioners knew their key children and the skills they wanted them to learn. Everyday expectations were clear, and children helped one another by holding a door or setting a table. Staff also encouraged personal care: children wiped their noses and washed their hands.

SEND support was purposeful. The SENCo worked with practitioners and parents to spot concerns early and begin external-support processes where required. That matters because help can start from an observed need rather than waiting for a child to struggle for a prolonged period. Parent partnership also had some depth: a survey reviewed during the inspection found families happy with the care, and several had used the nursery for more than one child over several years.

Safeguarding was judged effective. Staff understood how to report concerns about a child or a colleague, completed mandatory training during induction and received continuing training. Leadership supported professional development through e-learning and supervision.

There were two clear development points. Practice did not always extend children's learning consistently during group activities, and children needed more chances to do things independently. Both points affect a child's challenge and self-reliance.
