Happy Days Pre-School

The inspection found confident children who felt secure and behaved well. Its strongest documented details are practical and child-sized: a lending library, mathematical play, nature exploration and superhero-themed movement.

Mathematics has a visible place in the day. Inspectors saw staff introduce ideas such as big and small through animal play, then adjust a matching game to challenge children already familiar with numbers. Play dough brought vocabulary such as smooth and bumpy into sensory play. This gives parents concrete examples of adults extending both number awareness and language rather than simply supervising activities.

Books are used for conversation as well as quiet reading. Children discussed pictures, animals and colours with staff, while the lending library encouraged reading beyond the setting. Physical development crossed indoor and outdoor provision: superhero training included a spider man climb, and garden balancing equipment gave children practice in moving carefully and taking turns. Children also searched for snails with magnifying pots, linking outdoor activity to curiosity about the natural world.

The setting follows the Early Years Foundation Stage. In everyday terms, this means play and adult interaction are used to develop communication, physical skills, relationships and early understanding. Staff adapted activities to children's abilities so that all children were supported to progress.

Relationships are warm and attentive. Staff talked with children about experiences at home, reinforced kind hands and explained that everybody matters. Parents reported that their children were happy, confident and settled, and talked at home about friends and experiences.

At the May 2024 inspection, safeguarding was effective, with an open culture focused on children's interests. The SENDCo had developed supportive strategies so children with special educational needs and disabilities could progress. Leaders identified training needs, supported staff development and paid attention to staff wellbeing. All six staff held appropriate early-years qualifications at level 2 or 3 in May 2024.

The pre-school is at Ickenham United Reformed Church, Swakeleys Road, Ickenham, Uxbridge, UB10 8BE. The published operating information recorded weekday opening from 9.15am to 2.30pm during school term time. This was a term-time day pattern.
