Once Upon a Time Day Nurseries, Eastcote

A home-from-home atmosphere has substance here. Ofsted rated the Eastcote nursery Good in February 2024. Children were settled with staff, keen to learn and protected by effective safeguarding arrangements.

The setting at Cavendish Sports Pavilion and Cavendish House has 26 places for children aged from 10 months to five years. Its strongest documented qualities are emotional support, practical exploration and sustained outdoor activity.

The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the framework, which means children develop communication, physical, personal and wider areas of learning through play and everyday routines. Staff use children's interests and what they already know to plan experiences. Children make choices, explore freely and become comfortable with trying harder activities.

Learning had a practical streak in February 2024. Cooking and simple experiments gave children practical ways to investigate change. In the garden, they made mud pies and discovered worms, with staff explaining that worms emerge from the soil when it rains. These experiences turn observation and curiosity into active learning rather than an adult-led explanation alone.

Outdoor time was a genuine part of the day. Physical development extended well beyond the main rooms. The field behind the nursery supported longer stretches of outdoor play, while trips into the neighbourhood broadened children's experience of Eastcote.

Relationships were a clear strength at the 2024 visit. Staff listened to children, helped them identify emotions and guided them to be kind, share and take turns. A calm area gave children somewhere to regulate difficult feelings, while everyday routines such as handwashing and putting on wet-weather clothing built independence.

In February 2024, staff identified learning gaps and worked with external agencies where expert help was needed. Ofsted's February 2024 evidence indicated that children with special educational needs and disabilities were progressing with the support in place. Parents also described useful communication and opportunities to join nursery learning, helping them continue that learning at home.

In February 2024, the nursery received funded early education for three-year-olds. Current nursery-specific prices and the way funded hours are arranged need a provider quotation.

Once Upon a Time Day Nurseries, Eastcote offers a small setting with convincing evidence for warm relationships, outdoor activity and practical discovery. The calm area and staff guidance on emotions add useful depth to its care. The balance is not perfect: focused planning and conversational technique were the two clear development points in 2024. It best suits families who value active outdoor learning and a close, emotionally attentive atmosphere, provided the current attendance pattern works for them.
