In February 2023, children moved freely between indoor activities and the garden. Outdoor moments became language opportunities. Children listened for aeroplanes, noticed their lights and drew adults' attention to what they could see and hear. After a trip to the park, older children removed and hung up their coats, washed their hands and talked over the experience during tea. These are useful examples of staff connecting conversation, memory and self-care to an ordinary day.

Daily stories and rhymes were another clear thread in February 2023. The youngest children used props to indicate a preferred song, while practitioners modelled actions and paused familiar tunes so children could supply a word or short phrase. That gave early communicators a genuine choice as well as a manageable way into speech.
