Babies' interest in climbing prompted staff to create a safe climbing area, while a mixed group extended a pretend train made from chairs and wooden blocks so more friends could join. Practitioners asked the children how to include newcomers, then praised their solution. It is a useful picture of problem-solving becoming social learning rather than an adult simply reorganising the game.

Story bags and hand puppets supported language, and flapjack making introduced vocabulary such as vanilla. Children chose what to play with and showed high levels of engagement, so planning around their interests was visible in what they actually did.

Independence was woven into ordinary routines. Children buttered crackers, poured water and washed their hands before eating. The safety spies activity gave them responsibility for spotting possible risks and considering how to stay safe.
