A converted house, Portuguese lessons, two landscaped gardens and a balcony give this Richmond Road nursery a recognisable character. Bright Horizons Kingston Day Nursery and Preschool accepts children from 3 months to 5 years and has 73 places in total. Its layout matters: babies and toddlers occupy the first floor, nursery children use ground-floor classrooms, and preschool children have basement rooms with direct outdoor access.
At its October 2024 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, found safeguarding effective and judged that children progressed well towards skills useful for school, while identifying older children's vocabulary and understanding of healthy eating as areas to develop. A later organisational safeguarding notice, dated June 2026, is material to the decision too. The nursery's learning offer and that later regulatory position both deserve attention.
The early years foundation stage provides the framework for children's learning, development and care: play, conversation, movement and everyday routines all contribute to learning. Here, Portuguese and yoga are included for children aged two and above. These give language learning and movement a place alongside the everyday curriculum, rather than requiring families to arrange separate activities.
Boogie Mites brings music together with movement and songs for children across the age groups. A music area and lightbox area add physical spaces for musical exploration and sensory play. These are useful details for families whose children enjoy learning through sound, action and visual experiences.
In October 2024, mathematical activities included building with shapes, counting through songs and using words about weight and size. Stories used puppets, while children explored art materials and handled natural objects such as bark and acorns. Staff also introduced a ukulele and let children try it. The examples describe learning through things children could handle, hear and investigate.
Language teaching had a clear next step in October 2024: older children needed more challenging vocabulary. Books and action songs were already part of their experience, but extending the words used in conversation was the improvement required. For parents of preschool children, that is a more useful distinction than simply knowing that stories feature in the day.
Two landscaped gardens and a balcony extend the play space beyond the classrooms. All age groups have garden access during the day, and preschool children can move directly between their classrooms and outdoors. The building's different levels therefore do not mean that outdoor play belongs only to the oldest children.
The Eco-Schools Green Flag Award adds an environmental element to the nursery's identity. In October 2024, children grew herbs and vegetables in the garden and experimented with making paper from discarded cardboard. Sinking and floating investigations gave them another practical way to explore how objects behave. These examples connect environmental learning with activities children can take part in themselves.
In October 2024, staff gathered information from parents about babies' feeding and sleep patterns and followed those routines during nursery care. They also used children's interests to shape activities. For a baby starting childcare, this makes the relationship between home routines and nursery routines especially relevant.
Communication in October 2024 combined spoken daily feedback with secure electronic messages. Parents could borrow home-learning bags containing books and games, giving them concrete activities to continue together at home. The current Family app is a group-wide communication tool for sharing children's everyday experiences and development with parents.
Independence was woven into ordinary tasks in October 2024. Younger children practised feeding themselves; older children poured drinks and helped themselves at meals. Tidying and turn-taking were also part of the day. These are small, repeatable opportunities to practise doing things for oneself and taking account of other children.
On 22 June 2026, Ofsted issued an organisational Welfare Requirements Notice to the nursery's provider because it had not demonstrated consistently effective safeguarding across its provision; the actions concerned leadership oversight, handling concerns and allegations, and staff training, with a deadline of 1 August 2026, and did not establish concerns at each nursery. Most settings still met requirements, but the notice remains a material qualification to the earlier branch judgement. Its scope must be understood accurately: it concerns organisational arrangements rather than establishing that Kingston itself breached each requirement.
The latest published regulatory position is that dated notice and its required actions. For families, the practical issue is how organisational oversight translates into the handling and escalation of concerns at this nursery.
Opening hours are 7am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. The nursery operates across the year, with closures for bank and public holidays, an inset day and the period between Christmas and New Year. Those closures matter when matching childcare to a working calendar.
Funded childcare uses 10-hour sessions beginning at nursery opening time. Additional attendance outside the funded session is charged separately, and purchasing those extra hours is non-mandatory: it is not a condition of taking a funded place. Paid childcare also has weekly attendance options, with charges organised by days attended.
The address is 95 Richmond Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 5BT. There is an onsite buggy park and a forecourt for collection, and the nursery is just a five-minute walk from Kingston town centre, bus station, and Kingston train station.
Eligible families can use funded childcare, with 15-hour and 30-hour entitlements stretched over 50 weeks. This spreads funded hours across more of the year than the term-time funding structure. Eligibility conditions apply; funded hours and separately purchased attendance are different parts of the arrangement.
For private fees, meals and snacks are included, alongside nappies, wipes and formula for babies under 1 year; the everyday essentials offer is group-wide. On funded attendance, food carries a separate, non-mandatory charge, while the nursery supplies the consumables associated with funded hours.
A registration charge applies, and payment is collected monthly in advance by direct debit. Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation. The useful comparison is between the complete attendance arrangement and its separate components: funded hours, additional hours and food.
Kingston suits families interested in Portuguese and yoga from age two, music through Boogie Mites and outdoor access within a converted-house setting. Its attendance arrangements accommodate funded sessions and paid childcare organised across the working week. The practical learning examples from October 2024 give substance to the Good judgement, but the later organisational safeguarding notice must carry weight in a current choice. This is a nursery to assess on both its everyday offer and the subsequent safeguarding position.
Ofsted rated it Good in October 2024. A June 2026 organisational safeguarding notice concerning its provider is also relevant; its actions were not findings of concern at every individual setting.
Children can attend from 3 months to 5 years. Babies and toddlers use first-floor rooms, nursery classrooms are on the ground floor, and preschool rooms are in the basement.
Portuguese and yoga are included from age two. Boogie Mites combines music, movement and songs, and preschool children have direct access from their classrooms to the garden.
