Learning was built around children's interests and next steps in November 2023. Younger children explored texture and colour with shaving foam, while older children solved problems with art materials. Staff narrated play, repeated key words slowly and gave older children time to develop their answers. That makes communication part of the activity rather than a separate exercise.

The Early Years Foundation Stage covers children's learning, development and care through play, relationships and planned experiences. At the 2023 inspection, Quicks Road's curriculum was judged ambitious and responsive to each child. Early literacy included stories with props and puppets, fine-motor work with tongs and sensory games, and older children writing names and familiar words.

Movement had a broad place in the inspected week. Children took part in yoga, mindfulness, sports and outings into the local community. They also compared the sugar in fruit and chocolate, connecting healthy choices with an understandable example.

Stories were made active rather than left on the page. Props and puppets held younger children's attention, while tongs and sensory games strengthened the fine-motor control needed for later writing. Older children were encouraged to put their names on their work and some wrote other familiar words. These linked experiences show how practitioners moved from talk and physical control towards early independent writing.

The key-person system was a major strength in November 2023. Practitioners knew children extremely well, adapted quickly to babies' needs and identified gaps in learning early. Children who spoke English as an additional language were greeted in their home language by staff and other children, turning inclusion into a visible part of the day.

Children registered their feelings by placing their name against a colour. This gave them a simple language for emotions and helped them practise self-regulation. Independence was equally concrete: children washed their hands, dressed for outdoor play and, when older, set the table and helped one another at meals.

Support extended to progress as well as comfort. Practitioners identified gaps in learning and adjusted their work so children could catch up, while coaching and training helped the team respond to the children attending. Staff retention was very high at the time. For parents, that combination points to continuity in relationships and adults who were expected to keep refining their practice.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective at the inspection. Staff understood signs of possible abuse and reporting procedures, while recruitment and risk assessment were judged secure. Regular meetings, transition events and home-learning ideas also gave parents routes into their child's development.

The setting is at 89a Quicks Road, London SW19 1EX. At the November 2023 inspection it operated as full day care, Monday to Friday, from 7.30am to 6.30pm.
