N Family Club, Stratford

At a Glance

A circular courtyard, an adventure playground and a vegetable patch give N Family Club, Stratford a clear outdoor identity. This purpose-built nursery at 70 Villiers Gardens combines space for active play with an art studio and a library, making it an appealing option for families who want physical activity and creative exploration within the same nursery day.

Ofsted rated the nursery Good on 9 March 2023. It has capacity for 107 children, with an accepted age range of 3 to 60 months. That whole-setting capacity should not be confused with the number of children sharing an individual room.

Attendance centres on a standard day with paid extensions, across 51 weeks of the year. The practical strength is the combination of outdoor space, meals cooked on site and a booking pattern that can accommodate earlier starts or later finishes.

The Nursery Experience

Learning and Activities

The EYFS provides the foundation for learning through play, exploration and increasingly independent thinking. Alongside it, the group-wide N curriculum draws on several educational approaches and organises learning around health, expression, responsibility and ideas. The useful detail lies in the activities: children can choose resources in the art studio, use dress-up stations or explore the N library, while staff lead individual or small-group experiences including cooking and yoga.

These are different ways into learning. Creative resources let children develop their own ideas; adult-led experiences introduce activities they might not choose independently. The balance matters more than the curriculum branding alone.

In March 2023, children explored coloured foam and made collages using natural materials. Storytelling involved puppets, props and small-world resources, giving children ways to act out familiar stories rather than only listen to them. Staff paired spoken vocabulary with signing during play, and babies used words and signs with their key persons.

Practical mathematics also featured in March 2023: pouring and filling introduced capacity, while older children explored measurement and time. Scissors, chalk and tracing activities offered opportunities to practise hand movements. These examples connect early learning to things children can handle and do.

Outdoor and Community Life

The courtyard contains a bike track as well as the adventure playground and vegetable patch. Playrooms connect to the garden, and outdoor activities include planting, water play, climbing and obstacle courses. This gives movement a substantial place in the day, rather than making the garden simply a break from indoor activities.

Forest School-inspired learning, an approach centred on outdoor exploration, sits alongside these garden experiences. It should be read as an influence on activities here. The concrete offer is access to outdoor resources and opportunities to explore them.

Regular neighbourhood walks formed part of nursery life in March 2023. They extended children's experiences beyond the building, although the courtyard and garden remain the clearest features of the current offer.

Care and Support

Relationships and Communication

In March 2023, children had close relationships with adults, and babies responded to their key persons through signing and single words. Staff helped children name feelings and explained behavioural boundaries in language suited to their age. Those small interactions matter: they connect communication, emotional understanding and daily routines.

Parents can speak with educators about the day's activities and their child's experiences at collection. In March 2023, parents also received written information about development. Conversation and written updates serve different purposes, giving families both an immediate account of the day and a way to follow learning over time.

Inclusion and Wellbeing

At its March 2023 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and reported that children with SEND received help towards their individual targets, while identifying inconsistent support for self-care and a need for more consistent teaching across the nursery. The concern had a practical example: some children played in puddles wearing unsuitable clothing and did not recognise that they were becoming soaked.

Staff deployment, especially support for less-experienced practitioners, was therefore an improvement priority in March 2023. Training through the group-wide N Academy supports further early-years study, but a training scheme does not by itself establish how consistently staff put their learning into practice.

Rooms can be adapted for sleep, and children who no longer nap have restful corners available. That distinction allows rest to remain part of the day after a child has stopped sleeping at nursery.

Chefs cook fresh meals in the nursery's café kitchen, using menus developed with nutrition expertise. Private fees include meals and snacks, with formula and nappies also included; funded hours have a different charging structure, explained below.

Practical Information

Sessions and Attendance

The address is 70 Villiers Gardens, London, E20 1GW. Standard days run from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with paid extensions allowing attendance between 7am and 7pm. Extensions are booked on a pay-as-you-go basis and depend on availability.

The minimum booking is three full days each week, including either Monday or Friday. Four-day and full-time plans are also offered. This is a substantial weekly commitment, so the pattern needs to fit the family's routine as well as its working hours.

The nursery operates for 51 weeks annually. Bank holidays and INSET days are closures included in monthly payments, and sickness or family holidays do not attract refunds. Fees are averaged into monthly payments, which makes the closure terms relevant when comparing the total cost of attendance.

For healthcare or childcare emergencies, up to five day swaps per year may be agreed, subject to availability. Each must be used within the same calendar month as the absence; bank holidays and nursery closures are excluded. Extra ad hoc days can also be purchased subject to availability, with bookings accepted no more than two weeks ahead.

Getting There

A buggy, scooter and bike store provides a practical place for children's transport. N Café serves drinks and snacks for families, adding a shared space alongside the childcare provision.

Funding and Paid Extras

Both the 15 hours Early Years Funding Entitlement and the 30 hours Early Years Funding Entitlement are offered, subject to eligibility. Funding is stretched across 51 weeks: the respective weekly allocations are 11.18 and 22.35 hours. Additional private days use the standard all-inclusive rate.

During funded hours, food and drink, non-food consumables and additional activities carry itemised additional charges, included in the monthly fees. The food category includes formula; consumables cover nappies, wipes, creams and emergency medication. Families receiving funding may opt out of the additional charges. The distinction is important: the funded entitlement and the cost of the complete nursery package are separate parts of the bill.

A waiting-list registration charge becomes a non-refundable joining charge when a place is accepted. A separate place acceptance charge is credited against the final invoice. Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation.

Things to Consider

  • Weekly commitment. The minimum is three full days, with Monday or Friday included. At a visit, discuss how the standard day and paid extensions would fit your actual week.
  • Consistency of everyday support. In March 2023, staff deployment and teaching consistency required attention, including children's awareness of suitable outdoor clothing. Ask how room teams now support independence and supervise garden play.
  • Funded-hour extras. Food, consumables and activities carry itemised additional charges during funded hours, included in the monthly fees, with an opt-out offered. Discuss the itemised plan and what opting out involves before accepting it.
  • Settling into a large setting. The nursery has 107 places in total. Ask how settling sessions and key-person arrangements will work for your child, including the size of their everyday group.

The Verdict

N Family Club, Stratford suits families seeking a standard 8am to 6pm day or an extended pattern reaching 7am to 7pm, and able to commit to at least three days each week. Its strongest practical attractions are the courtyard, garden resources, creative spaces and on-site cooking.

The March 2023 Good judgement provides a dated quality benchmark, alongside clear priorities around staff deployment and consistent practice. For parents, the decision turns on how those everyday care arrangements work now and how the attendance plan, including funded-hour extras, fits the family budget.
