In February 2023, children chose between activities and joined adult-led experiences. Staff linked their interests to real life: construction play drew on nearby building sites, with children comparing bricks and wooden blocks as they built. Older children retold The Three Billy Goats Gruff with props, while babies and toddlers selected song picture cards and joined in with actions. These examples show communication, imagination and cooperation embedded in play.

The Early Years Foundation Stage means children develop communication, physical, social and other areas of learning through play. These priorities appeared in practical experiences. The improvement point was precise: staff needed to use more opportunities to extend mathematical language, including shape and measurement.

Community experience is a clear thread. Children made regular library visits to return and choose books, journeys by train or bus, and daily time in the secure garden. These activities give children opportunities to connect books, transport and their neighbourhood with nursery learning. Returning and choosing library books makes literacy tangible, while travelling together turns the local area into a shared topic for conversation. Daily garden access adds a regular outdoor dimension rather than an occasional event.

Secure relationships were evident in February 2023. Staff knew children well, responded sensitively and judged when to help or let a child try independently. They sought permission before physical comfort and encouraged children to manage handwashing, dressing and bathroom routines with little prompting.

Language support was specific rather than generic. Staff shared some families' cultural heritage and used key words supplied in children's home languages during conversation. Staff also worked with other professionals on early intervention and built care plans into daily activities.

Parents received day-to-day information through an online app, including observations, photographs and development updates, with parents' evenings providing another point of contact. Dietary requirements were recorded on individual place mats, and staff sat with younger children as they learned to feed themselves.

Safety practice was concrete. Staff completed safeguarding training during induction, knew where to seek advice and understood referral routes. Team meetings covered topics including female genital mutilation and signs of emotional abuse. Self-closing electronic gates, visitor reminders, CCTV around the building and documented collection arrangements added practical controls around who could enter and collect a child.

The setting is on Harold Road in Upton Park. The setting was recorded in February 2023 as opening from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, throughout the year, and the provision was described as full day care. Other booking products, session patterns and today’s terms belong in one direct conversation with the provider.
