In October 2024, a caterpillar climbing structure and self-portrait activities gave Busy Bees Cheam Park a more concrete identity than its group name alone. Based at The Old Stables in Cheam Park, Sutton, it accepts children from 3 months and has 79 places in total. The park address is a defining practical detail; the garden experiences add substance to the account of children's day.
At its 30 October 2024 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, with a positive assessment of its curriculum but an improvement required in how staff use questions to stretch children's thinking. That distinction matters for parents of older children: opportunities to talk were present, but conversations needed to invite more explanation and exploration of ideas.
Attendance choices include full-time care and morning or afternoon sessions. Those different patterns make this a consideration for families needing either a substantial working-week arrangement or shorter spells of nursery attendance.
The early years foundation stage provides the framework for children's learning, development and care. In everyday language, that brings learning and care together: talking, playing, developing physical skills and learning to manage relationships belong within the nursery day.
In October 2024, communication and emotional development were central to the curriculum, with learning organised to build towards the move to school. Children could select activities and direct their play, while staff introduced learning through both planned activities and spontaneous exchanges. For families, the useful balance is between children's own interests and adults giving those interests direction.
Stories created opportunities for younger children to encounter new vocabulary. Older children exchanged ideas with adults and talked about what they knew. The improvement point concerns what happens next: questions should help a child work through an idea, rather than simply provide an answer they already know.
Black History Month activities in October 2024 included making self-portraits while exploring what people share and how they differ. That is a specific example of social learning through a creative task, rather than an abstract discussion detached from children's own experience.
In October 2024, the garden had recently been refurbished. Children climbed onto a caterpillar structure, while younger children tackled the steps to a slide and practised getting onto bouncers with staff nearby. These are tangible opportunities to attempt a physical challenge and try again.
The account gives outdoor play a clear purpose. Climbing, balancing and persisting with an unfamiliar movement were part of children's experience, with adults encouraging their attempts. Parents weighing the outdoor element can therefore consider the kinds of activity involved, alongside the fact that the nursery has a garden.
At the October 2024 inspection, Ofsted found effective safeguarding, good support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and good progress from children's individual starting points. For SEND, the practical mechanisms included consistent staff approaches, collaboration with other professionals and additional funding directed towards individual needs.
Relationships supplied everyday reassurance in October 2024. Staff knew children's interests and care needs, and younger children sought comfort from adults when they needed it. Children also showed consideration towards others. For a parent choosing care for a baby or toddler, those interactions are more useful detail than a broad claim about a welcoming atmosphere.
Communication with families included activities they could continue at home. This connected nursery learning with familiar surroundings, giving parents something practical to do alongside their child rather than simply receiving an account of the day.
Food and snacks supported healthy eating in October 2024, and staff attended to individual health needs while teaching hygiene routines. The useful emphasis was on both daily care and children beginning to understand how to look after themselves.
Staff development also formed part of the October 2024 picture. Leaders watched teaching, offered feedback and arranged training, and staff reported feeling supported in their work. That provides context for the teaching improvement: there was an existing route for developing practice, although the questioning issue still required attention.
The nursery opens Monday to Friday, from 7.30am to 6pm, throughout the year, closing on bank holidays. Its attendance choices include full-time care, mornings and afternoons across the working week. Opening hours describe the overall operating window; the shorter attendance choices give families a different way to organise nursery care.
The address is The Old Stables, Cheam Park, Sutton, SM3 8QS. Families can make an enquiry through the nursery's contact form or telephone the enrolments team on 0330 333 8133. A branch visit can be booked by selecting a date and time.
Funded childcare is offered. The funding options include 30 Hours working families funding, 15 Hours universal funding for children aged 3 and 4, and 15 hours for 2-year-olds receiving support. These are eligibility-dependent routes, rather than a promise that every family's chosen attendance will be funded.
Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation. The important starting point is to distinguish the attendance pattern a family wants from the entitlement for which they qualify.
Busy Bees Cheam Park suits families considering full-time attendance as well as those seeking morning or afternoon sessions. Its October 2024 assessment gives a positive foundation, supported by concrete examples of outdoor challenges, relationships and learning through conversation. The balance for parents is clear: recognise those strengths while giving the improvement in questioning proper attention, especially when choosing provision for an older child.
