At its January 2026 inspection, Norto5 KIDZ, Lindfield had a sleep room and space for younger children to crawl, alongside opportunities to develop independence, though the assessment raised substantial questions about teaching consistency. Based at The Pavilion on Hickmans Lane, it accepts children aged 0 to 60 months.
At the 6 January 2026 inspection, Ofsted assessed achievement and curriculum and teaching as needing attention, with behaviour and routines, welfare and wellbeing, inclusion, and leadership and governance meeting the expected standard; safeguarding standards were met. The distinction matters: care and educational consistency received different assessments.
The early years foundation stage sets requirements for children's learning, development and care, bringing play and everyday routines into their education. In January 2026, babies chose resources and practised feeding themselves with cutlery, while older children used drawing materials. These were practical opportunities to exercise choice and independence.
Counting and talk about size brought early mathematics into play that January. However, staff did not consistently balance activities directed by adults with children's own play. Opportunities for books, songs and rhymes were missed, limiting support for language, literacy and imagination.
A January 2026 action required better understanding of child development and a more carefully ordered curriculum by 3 February 2026. This was about connecting learning across stages, rather than simply providing enjoyable activities.
At its January 2026 inspection, Ofsted found that support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities included referrals to external services and plans developed with families and other agencies. This gave support an individual basis.
During January 2026, staff exchanged information with parents about meals, sleep and activities, and learnt words from children's home languages. Familiar language helped connect home life with nursery experiences.
The sleep room had been adapted by January 2026, with equipment and materials intended to make rest calmer. Younger children had space for crawling, and older children practised handwashing and toileting. Meals and snacks supported healthy eating, while outdoor play was part of each day's routine that month.
