Books taken home with play props, camping role-play and access to a neighbouring school field give Goxhill Pre-School's April 2022 account a recognisable character. At its 28 April 2022 inspection, Ofsted judged the provision Good, found safeguarding effective and identified strong support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
The pre-school has 23 places in total. Children attending in April 2022 were aged two to four; that age range describes the children at the time, rather than a current admissions boundary.
In April 2022, play connected language with familiar experiences: a miniature farm helped children name animals and their young, while a camping role-play area prompted imaginary holidays and pizza-making. The early years foundation stage sets expectations for children's learning, development and care; here, play provided opportunities to practise language, counting and independence.
Daily stories were part of the April 2022 routine. Chatterpacks paired a book with props for families to use together at home, extending reading beyond the pre-school. Sand play introduced comparisons of quantity and counting, and displayed numerals supported children working on number recognition.
During that same period, children used the neighbouring school's secure field for running and climbing. Staff supervised opportunities to judge risks, giving physical activity a place alongside indoor play.
In April 2022, staff knew children's interests and helped them handle disagreements by talking about feelings. Practical independence mattered too: children spread butter on toast, washed their hands before snacks and practised putting coats on.
Communication with families included explanations of children's learning and next steps. During April 2022, staff also worked with local-authority colleagues and portage workers, and taught children ways to express their needs.
School preparation was concrete in April 2022: staff exchanged learning information with neighbouring teachers, used stories about starting school and introduced children to their future uniform. These were preparation activities, rather than an admissions advantage.
The address is Integrated Services Building, Goxhill Primary School, North End, Goxhill, Barrow Upon Humber, DN19 7JR.
In April 2022, opening hours were 9am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, during school terms. Funded early education was provided for children aged two, three and four at that time.
The pre-school shares the Goxhill Primary School site. Attendance does not guarantee a Reception place; families still apply through the local authority's admissions process.
Goxhill Pre-School merits consideration for families drawn to shared reading, practical independence and preparation for school. Its April 2022 account offers concrete examples of each. The Good judgement sits alongside a clear limitation: older children's thinking needed more consistent challenge. Families considering a term-time routine have a useful starting point in that dated account.
Ofsted rated it Good on 28 April 2022. Priorities included extending older children's thinking and making staff development more precisely targeted.
