In September 2022, wellington boots, block-built obstacle courses and stories carried into play shaped children's experience at Little Stars Kindergarten. At its September 2022 inspection, Ofsted rated it Outstanding and judged safeguarding effective. The strongest thread in that account is children's independence: adults supported them while leaving room to try, persist and make decisions.
Based at Memorial Hall in Newton Bromswold, the kindergarten has 16 places in total. Children attending in September 2022 were aged two to four; that age range belongs to the inspection date.
In September 2022, children fetched their outdoor clothes and dressed themselves for the garden. Staff recognised persistence, giving everyday tasks a purpose beyond simply getting ready.
Outdoor play connected movement with thinking. Children counted a friend's trampoline jumps and recorded them with a grid. They also rearranged blocks into an obstacle course, making the challenge harder while adults stayed nearby. These were opportunities to practise numbers, balance and judgement within play.
The early years foundation stage is the framework for children's learning, development and care: here, the September 2022 examples included mathematics through play and storytelling. A clock made the approaching snack time a conversation about numerals. Familiar tales became material for parachute play, while library visits supplied books to share at home.
Conversation was carefully balanced in September 2022. Staff made space for quieter children rather than allowing confident speakers to dominate, and followed children's interests to extend discussion. A sand timer helped children negotiate turns themselves, giving them a practical tool for sharing.
At the September 2022 inspection, Ofsted found that staff recognised special educational needs and/or disabilities promptly, worked closely with families and external services, and supported children to make the progress they could. This makes individual support a substantial part of the inspection judgement, rather than a general promise.
In September 2022, newcomers settled quickly and formed close relationships with adults and other children. Parents valued communication, especially around specific needs, and help with relationships with other services. For families managing several sources of support, that coordination mattered alongside the child's daily experience.
Safety also had a practical dimension in September 2022. Children used tools to hammer tacks into wood outdoors, while staff assessed hazards inside and outside. Managed challenges and adult oversight sat together.
The address is Memorial Hall, Rushden Road, Newton Bromswold, Rushden, NN10 0SP.
In September 2022, opening hours were 9.15am to 1.15pm on weekdays during term time. At that date, the kindergarten received funding for early education for children aged two, three and four. These are dated operating arrangements, rather than a current attendance offer.
Little Stars Kindergarten suits families who value the independence, purposeful outdoor play and thoughtful individual support described in its September 2022 inspection. Its September 2022 account gives concrete examples of each. The historical term-time timetable also makes it especially relevant to families considering a shorter nursery day, with the attendance question above central to assessing today's fit.
Ofsted rated it Outstanding at its inspection on 13 September 2022 and judged safeguarding effective.
