In July 2022, a kindness tree and a child-made adventure book gave this preschool a recognisable character: everyday experiences became opportunities to talk, tell stories and recognise thoughtful behaviour. At its July 2022 inspection, Ofsted judged the provision Good overall, with Outstanding judgements for behaviour and attitudes and leadership and management.
Play And Learn Preschool, Mead Vale has 34 places in total. In July 2022, the children attending were aged two to four, and familiar routines helped them act independently and understand what would happen next. Those dated observations give a useful picture of the preschool's approach, rather than a promise about today's daily arrangements.
In July 2022, carefully arranged play spaces encouraged children to investigate and sustain their interests. In the home corner, cake-making, washing up and a pretend birthday celebration connected practical tasks with imaginative play. A quiet area gave children somewhere to share books and listen to one another.
The early years foundation stage sets the requirements for children's learning, development and care, with play providing opportunities to practise language, movement and everyday skills. In July 2022, children created an adventure picture book that drew on outings to shops and posting a letter. It gave their own experiences a place in storytelling.
Physical activity also had several forms that month: climbing, sliding and balancing around a tunnel, practising with scissors and joining yoga. The kindness tree displayed recognition of children's considerate actions, making their contributions visible to friends.
Language teaching had a clear limitation. In July 2022, adults sometimes crowded conversations with questions or answered before children had time to think; quieter children also needed more chances to join conversations and develop confidence.
At the July 2022 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective, children making good progress through play, and effective support for children with special educational needs or disabilities and those learning English as an additional language. Support included individual work and small-group activities, with a special educational needs coordinator linking parents, colleagues and other professionals.
In July 2022, additional funding bought resources for physical and sensory learning. Staff used conversations during play and meals to understand children's development, while regular supervision supported their own learning and practice.
In July 2022, parents valued the home lending library and opportunities to share stories. In July 2022, parents were involved in their children's learning and received detailed communication; this made the relationship more than an exchange of practical messages.

This preschool suits families who value imaginative play, children's own storytelling and a close connection between home and early learning.
