Fruit-cutting, caterpillar conversations and a fish tank give Cherubs Kindergarten's inspection-era account its character: ordinary experiences became opportunities to practise independence and explore ideas. At its August 2023 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, with an effectively delivered curriculum shaped around children's interests and learning needs.
The Farnborough setting has capacity for 50 children aged 3 to 60 months. The strongest reasons to consider it lie in that dated account of attentive relationships and purposeful play, balanced against a clear request to reduce interruptions to learning.
The August 2023 examples span different stages of childhood: babies tackled climbing equipment, while older children explored vocabulary and connections between living things. Snack time brought children together with their key person, linking practical skills with a familiar adult. This gives families concrete examples of how learning and care worked together at that inspection, rather than relying on the grade alone.
In August 2023, children used base rooms across two floors and an enclosed outdoor play space. Babies practised climbing indoors, with adults watching closely while allowing them to attempt the challenge themselves. Outdoor play was frequent, and regular outings extended experiences beyond the nursery.
In August 2023, the climbing activity gave babies a problem to tackle through movement: adults stayed close but allowed them to work out the ascent and descent. The distinction matters for families weighing physical exploration alongside supervision. Older children discussed which foods were healthy and which were not, giving them opportunities to make decisions together. These experiences involved both doing and thinking. Children could test an idea physically or talk it through with others, rather than simply follow an adult's instructions.
The early years foundation stage sets the framework for children's learning, development and care: play, conversation and everyday tasks support their developing skills. In August 2023, caterpillars prompted discussion of new vocabulary, while moss balls in the nursery fish tank encouraged children to connect ideas. These were concrete starting points for thinking and talking.
Children also practised sharing and taking turns. Parents contributed songs in another language, bringing family traditions into the day. There was a practical weakness alongside these experiences: care routines sometimes pulled children away from activities before they had finished engaging with them.
At the August 2023 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective, including staff awareness of concerns and supervision during meals and outdoor play. That is a dated judgement rather than an assurance about today's practice.
In August 2023, babies enjoyed songs and responsive cuddles, while settling arrangements and conversations with parents helped staff plan from the outset. Children sat with their key person and a small number of friends at snack time. Pouring drinks, cutting fruit and helping prepare the table gave care routines a useful role in building independence.
Parents were involved in learning and interventions, and staff used simple British sign language to support communication. Assessments informed adjustments to activities, with clear expectations for the next room or the move to school. This connected day-to-day planning with the skills children would need at their next stage, rather than treating a room move or school preparation as a separate exercise.
In August 2023, staff listened carefully when children spoke, giving their contributions attention. Alongside adults modelling how to share and take turns, this made conversation part of learning how to be with other people. Staff also received regular training and supervision, including apprentices. These arrangements provided opportunities to build teaching knowledge and discuss their work. For parents, the useful distinction is between the support staff received and the children's experiences already described: both formed part of the inspection-era account.
