Queen's Cuties gives babies separate spaces for sleeping, changing and milk preparation, while Little Wonders brings sensory play into the nursery day. These are useful details in a setting with capacity for 100 children, from birth to five years, on Holyhead Road in Wednesbury. Queen's Cuties separates sleeping, changing and milk preparation, giving these care routines dedicated spaces.
At its November 2022 inspection, Ofsted rated Wonderland Good, found safeguarding effective and judged that children made good progress. That judgement is dated. The account of daily practice below distinguishes those observations from the current rooms and facilities.
Age-banded rooms run from babies through to preschool children, with an outdoor play area and shelter adding another place to learn. Opening hours extend from 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays.
Queen's Cuties caters for babies from six weeks to two years: mobile and non-mobile babies have divided space, with separate sleeping and changing areas and a milk kitchen for feed preparation and storage. This arrangement matters because a baby's need for rest need not compete with another child's active play.
Little Bunnies, for children aged two to two-and-a-half, combines space for movement with books, imaginative play, construction and creative activities. The emphasis suits a stage when children are beginning to do more for themselves but still need room to move freely.
Alice's Tots serves two-and-a-half to three-year-olds, with construction, role play, messy activities, sand and water on a floor designed to be cleaned. Alice's Angels serves three to three-and-a-half-year-olds with the same types of play areas and a similarly practical floor surface. These rooms give children several ways to explore an idea, whether through building, pretending or handling materials.
Clever Cats, for three-and-a-half to five-year-olds, uses two rooms with spaces for mathematics, music and listening, books, home play, a computer and messy activities. Little Wonders is the shared sensory room for all ages, combining sensory resources with physical equipment and convenient access to bathroom and changing facilities.
The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the framework for learning and care, with children learning through play, planned activities and experiences initiated by both adults and children. Development Matters guides the curriculum as children progress through the nursery. The useful distinction is between having a framework and giving children things to do within it: the room layouts provide books, construction materials, pretend play and hands-on activities through which learning can happen.
In November 2022, stories involved more than listening. Babies explored books alongside their key person, while older children acted out a bear hunt using figures, story cards and natural materials. That gave children ways to connect words with movement and objects.
Language and early mathematics also entered practical play that month. During outdoor dough-making, staff introduced descriptive vocabulary and helped children count and measure ingredients. These were everyday opportunities to connect a word or number with something a child could handle, rather than separate exercises.
A shelter in the large outdoor play area provides cover in sunny or rainy weather. Outdoor play is encouraged, giving children another setting for movement and exploration beyond their rooms.
In November 2022, community experiences included tram rides and visits to a police station and travel agents. Children also explored differences between types of buses. The value was concrete: familiar transport and local services became subjects for conversation and learning.
Diwali activities that month included biscuit-making, ribbon dancing and bright clothing; children also made poppies for Remembrance Day. Books and activities represented different cultures, giving celebrations a place within play and creative work.
In November 2022, children had close relationships with their key person, and babies practised early movement using low furniture and wheeled toys. A dedicated sleep room used gentle lighting and music. Those observations describe care at that time; the current Queen's Cuties layout continues to include a separate sleep area.
Conversations and an online app were used to share learning with families in November 2022. However, some parents needed more help to understand their child's progress through the app. This was a practical weakness in communication: receiving an update is useful only if its meaning is clear.
A second improvement point concerned the learning spaces after lunch. In November 2022, materials were not consistently refreshed, and disordered activities sometimes lost children's interest. Families assessing the nursery should therefore look beyond the initial room layout to how staff sustain play across the day.
The nursery plans care around individual needs and welcomes children from different cultural backgrounds. Its dietary approach includes fruit, vegetables and foods from other cultures, with dietary requirements catered for. That describes the food approach rather than an assurance about an individual child's allergy arrangements.
Breastfeeding arrangements can be made with the nursery manager. For families continuing to breastfeed, this sits alongside the baby room's separate milk kitchen rather than treating feeding as an incidental part of the day.
Wonderland is at 57 Holyhead Road, Wednesbury, WS10 7DF. It opens Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6pm, for 51 weeks each year, excluding bank holidays. These are opening hours; they give families the operating window for planning childcare around work and other commitments.
Enquiries can be made by telephone on 0121 556 6222 or through the contact form. Visits can also be arranged by calling or sending a message.
The purpose-designed building has two levels and ramp access at the main entrance. It stands opposite Wednesbury bus station, with links to the Black Country metro, making public transport a relevant option for families considering the location.
Nursery Education Funding (NEF) is offered for 15 hours of funded childcare. Families should obtain current prices in the nursery's written quotation, keeping the funded entitlement separate from the cost of any additional care.
Wonderland suits families seeking age-banded care from babyhood through preschool, with separate baby-care spaces, a shared sensory room and outdoor play. Its weekday opening window will matter to parents organising care around work, while the position opposite the bus station offers a useful transport option.
The November 2022 Good judgement provides a dated quality assessment. The decision today should also turn on two concrete questions: how learning spaces remain engaging after lunch, and how clearly parents can understand their child's progress. The rooms offer plenty to discuss on a visit; those everyday practices deserve equal attention.
