Conversation and storytelling stood out at Thrive Leyland Meadows in March 2024: babies tried out words, older children discussed their interests, and stories included props and dressing up. This Leyland nursery has capacity for 64 children at Poplar Tree House, 197 Dunkirk Lane, PR26 7SN.
At its March 2024 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, judged safeguarding effective and found that targeted support helped children with SEND progress from their individual starting points. Children attending then were aged 0 to 4. These are dated findings, with a later regulatory finding also relevant to families.
The early years foundation stage sets requirements for children's learning, development and care. For children, this includes developing language, joining in with stories, being physically active and learning everyday routines, as illustrated by the March 2024 examples below. In March 2024, learning was organised to build on children's existing abilities as they moved between rooms, with their next stage of education in mind.
Conversation ran through the day. In March 2024, staff used songs and discussion to introduce vocabulary, simplifying their language for children who needed that adjustment. Older children sustained conversations about home and outings. Storytelling included pauses for participation, alongside costumes and props: children had ways to contribute rather than simply listen.
Physical exploration mattered too. In March 2024, children experimented with filling and emptying containers in the water area, accessed outdoor space daily and joined exercise classes. Discussions about food choices linked the nursery menu to learning about health. These examples connect practical activity with language and growing independence.
In March 2024, staff knew children well and modelled considerate behaviour. Children shared resources and comforted friends, while babies practised routines such as preparing their sleeves before handwashing. Everyday care also provided opportunities to learn how to manage tasks themselves.
Development monitoring and additional screening informed targeted learning plans in March 2024. The special educational needs and disability coordinator arranged referrals to external agencies when needed. This gave support a practical structure, from identifying a difficulty to planning a response.
Parents contributed information about children's existing abilities when they started and received guidance about extending learning at home in March 2024. The grandparents day event involved wider family members in children's education. Communication therefore reached beyond updates about the nursery day to activities families could build on together.
The address is Poplar Tree House, 197 Dunkirk Lane, Leyland, PR26 7SN. In March 2024, the nursery operated throughout the year on weekdays, with session times of 8am to 6pm; it also provided funded early education for children aged two, three and four. Treat those arrangements as an inspection-era snapshot when planning attendance.
Thrive Leyland Meadows merits consideration for families who value conversation, participatory stories and involvement in learning at home. Its March 2024 account offers concrete examples of each. The reservations are equally specific: participation for quieter children, clarity of staff development and the July 2026 notification failure all deserve weight in a family's decision.
Ofsted rated the nursery Good at its inspection on 12 March 2024 and judged safeguarding effective. A later regulatory visit on 22 July 2026 identified a failure to notify Ofsted of a significant event.
