In May 2024, woodwork, rope swings and growing food gave Blythe Bridge Day Nursery a practical character: children had opportunities to make things, test their movement and explore how food grows. At its May 2024 inspection, Ofsted judged the provision Good, found safeguarding effective and identified effective support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
The nursery serves children aged 0 to 60 months at 195 Uttoxeter Road, Blythe Bridge, Stoke-on-Trent, ST11 9HQ. The strongest reasons to consider it lie in the detail of children's experiences, alongside two clear areas for improvement: consistency in curriculum delivery and better support during everyday routines.
The early years foundation stage provides the framework for children's learning, development and care, connecting play with the skills children need as they grow. In May 2024, activities included making patterns with art materials and using tools for woodwork. Hammers, saws and screwdrivers gave children tasks with a tangible end result.
Outdoor experiences had substance, too. During May 2024, babies practised crawling through tunnels, while older children experimented with rope swings. Growing fruit and vegetables connected outdoor activity with conversations about food. These experiences brought movement, exploration and everyday knowledge together.
Language ran through ordinary interactions. In May 2024, staff used songs and stories, gave children time to answer questions and described younger children's play aloud. Books also introduced different beliefs, disabilities and skin tones, giving children material for conversations about similarities and differences.
In May 2024, staff used knowledge of families to help children settle, with reassurance and cuddles for babies. Conversations about feelings and help resolving disagreements made relationships part of the nursery day, rather than something addressed only when behaviour became difficult.
At the same date, language screening and individual targets were used to identify communication needs and plan support. Parents received updates about daily experiences. Staff also worked with families on toilet training, linking care at home with children's growing independence at nursery.
Children ate home-cooked meals in May 2024. Food growing supplied a practical starting point for discussions about healthy eating.
The address is 195 Uttoxeter Road, Blythe Bridge, Stoke-on-Trent, ST11 9HQ. Opening hours are 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, across the year, with closures for bank holidays and one week at Christmas.
In May 2024, funded early education was provided for children aged two, three and four. That dated participation should be kept separate from a family's current funding arrangements and written quotation.
Blythe Bridge Day Nursery suits families who value practical exploration, outdoor movement and learning woven into everyday conversation. Its May 2024 experiences give that judgement concrete substance, from woodwork to food growing. The two improvement priorities deserve equal weight: an interesting activity matters most when staff sustain children's involvement and adapt it to their learning needs.
