In September 2025, an indoor open-air bus, a large wooden horse and story conversations about alternative endings gave RSC Nursery a recognisable character. At its September 2025 inspection, Ofsted rated it Outstanding, finding carefully tailored education, support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and effective safeguarding.
The nursery has capacity for 49 children at Waterside in Stratford-upon-avon. In September 2025, the children attending were aged 0 to 4. The strongest thread through that snapshot is the connection between imaginative play, conversation and growing independence.
The early years foundation stage sets the framework for children's learning, development and care: play and everyday routines provide opportunities to practise communication, movement and social skills. In September 2025, stories were an especially useful starting point. Children explored books, recalled events and considered how a story might end differently. Reading became a conversation rather than simply listening.
During that month, the indoor open-air bus and large wooden horse supported pretend holidays. Older children experimented with writing, while play dough and cutting tools gave children opportunities to shape their own creations. Children could choose activities themselves as well as join experiences led by adults.
Outdoors, September 2025 brought daily opportunities to run, climb and balance, using wooden frames and logs. These physical challenges complemented the quieter concentration involved in books and mark making. Sharing, taking turns and cooperating were woven into activities across the day.
In September 2025, even the youngest children formed close relationships with adults and explored their surroundings confidently. Staff adjusted conversations to children's development, using gestures, pauses and repetition where language was emerging. That gave children different ways to participate.
Assessments that month began with what children already knew, then drew on continuing observations and parents' contributions to plan their next steps. Staff training addressed the team's development needs, with leaders providing both professional guidance and emotional support.
Mealtimes in September 2025 brought children together around tables with tablecloths and cutlery; pouring drinks from jugs gave them a practical responsibility. Meals and snacks supported learning about healthy eating; exercise and oral hygiene also featured in the curriculum, and allergies and food preferences were accommodated. Parents also received information to help continue learning at home.

RSC Nursery suits families drawn to imaginative play, books and everyday independence. Its September 2025 experience combined pretend journeys indoors with climbing and balancing outdoors, while meals offered another opportunity for children to take responsibility.
