Dough pressed with seashells, sand mixed with water and a rope-climbing challenge give Kinderoos Tewkesbury a recognisable character in its June 2022 account of nursery life. Children explored textures, tested ideas and tackled physical challenges. The strongest thread was learning through things children could touch, change and try for themselves.
Ofsted rated the nursery Good on 9 June 2022, with Outstanding personal development. Those judgements belong to that visit. The nursery has capacity for 37 children aged 3 to 60 months, at 1 Conigree Lane, Abbots Road, Tewkesbury, GL20 5TF. Its weekday opening hours run from 8am to 6pm.
The early years foundation stage brings learning, development and care together: play supports communication, physical skills and growing independence. In June 2022, babies investigated dough with shells, while staff supplied language for the textures they felt. The activity linked an immediate sensory experience with words, giving children something concrete to communicate about.
For toddlers that June, adding water changed what they could do with sand. They carried water in jugs, experimented with the mixture and built structures that held together. This was an accessible introduction to cause and effect. The result of their experiment was visible, rather than something an adult simply explained.
Stories and rhymes added another kind of participation. In June 2022, babies used pretend telescopes during a story, and toddlers practised counting through a song about currant buns. Props gave the youngest children a way to join in; the counting activity connected number with an unfolding story.
The same visit identified an educational weakness: staff sometimes missed opportunities to stretch children's thinking through questions or alternative approaches. Interesting materials were present, but extending learning needed more consistent attention. That distinction matters when judging the day: an engaging activity and a well-developed learning conversation are different things.
In June 2022, preschool children attempted rope climbing and a sloped climbing wall. Some gradually reduced the help they wanted when jumping down. These physical features gave children opportunities to test their confidence and judge what assistance they needed, rather than taking part only in adult-led games.
Outings that June included the abbey, library and park. Community involvement also reached beyond trips: staff had provided a children's activity area at a local fair. These experiences connected nursery life with familiar public places and people outside the setting.
In June 2022, support for families extended to practical needs. Through a community support hub and local shops, staff helped families obtain items such as dental-care supplies and medicinal creams. The cook also shared recipes using affordable ingredients. The value was concrete: family support included useful everyday help alongside conversations about children.
Communication with toddlers took several forms that June. Objects helped explain the daily routine, while picture-and-word cards paired English with children's home languages. A child did not have to rely entirely on spoken instructions to understand what was happening next. This is a useful detail for families thinking about language development or a child's experience of more than one language.
At the June 2022 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and children with special educational needs and/or disabilities learning well, with key persons involving parents and other professionals in additional support. These are dated findings, rather than assurances about present practice.
In June 2022, staff helped children consider climbing height and safe jumping. Care therefore included helping children think about risk themselves. Group play needed clearer guidance, however: some children disrupted shared activities, and staff did not consistently establish expectations before problems arose. The improvement request covered sharing both materials and space, an everyday issue for children learning to play together.

In June 2022, the nursery received funding for early education for children aged two, three and four. That historical participation should be kept separate from a family's current entitlement and charging arrangements. Current prices should come in a written quotation from the nursery.
Kinderoos Tewkesbury suits families seeking year-round weekday childcare who value practical exploration and contact with the surrounding community. The June 2022 examples show children experimenting, climbing and participating in stories, alongside unusually practical help for families. The balance is clear: that visit also identified weaknesses in extending learning and setting expectations for shared play. Those two areas deserve attention when assessing how the nursery works today.
